[With a long-awaited “Mud Face” solo album, potential “Blackout 3!” joint effort with Method Man and Def Squad reunion project in the works, hip-hop veteran Redman talks to SOHH about juggling multiple music releases all at once.]

It’s just about the work ethic. Honestly, when you have that many projects lined up, you want to give yourself room to give each project that quality of work.

That’s one thing about us, Def Squad and Wu-Tang, we believe in putting out quality and quality work no matter how long it takes. It’s just about spacing yourself, not draining yourself out and making sure that your material is timeless.

Sometimes I might sit on a song for like three or four months just to see if it has that time stretch. Now if I get tired of it after a month, then it’s a decision I have to make on that song. But you can do it.

All of these projects that I’ve said I want to do, I want to do it. That goes back to experience of me knowing the game, knowing my job, knowing the quarters of the hip-hop game. That’s very important to know as far as being a boss or a CEO.

When you know key little elements like there aren’t new songs or albums coming out on Tuesdays anymore, they drop them on Fridays now. Global Release Fridays. There’s no more Tuesdays.

Things like that, just as an artist, you should know. Your manager shouldn’t be the only one that knows. You should know elements like that so it gives you room to build. I’m not saying you have to just know that element in particular, but you have to know the game in detail.

You have to know your four quarters. If you want to drop in September, then I know I have to turn this album in by June. No later than June in order to have a good two-month promotion on it – once you get that and learn the pattern, you can drop anytime you want without having a dry spot in your year.

You can operate in a way so you don’t have any dry spots in your year. But it just takes a good team and planning.

I advise everybody to plan out and draw up your steps.
