[With Kendrick Lamar sparking attention and Kanye West upset over his Grammy Awards nominations, Houston rapper Lecrae tells SOHH readers what has him inspired nearly a year after picking up his first Grammy trophy.]
At the end of the day, I don’t want to live in the moment.
I’m never about living in the moment. I’m always about progressing forward and progressing. I don’t want to ever be like, “Okay, well that was it.” I remember when I did the BET Cypher and everybody thought it was dope. I didn’t want to stay there and have it be my claim to fame.
When [my first mixtape] Church Clothes came out [last year] and it was well-received, I didn’t want to live there and be like, “Yeah!” When the Grammy award happened, I didn’t want to live there. Right now, I’m not even thinking about [my latest project] Church Clothes 2, I’m thinking about my next project.
I’m glad people are loving it but I’m always trying to push the limits and do more.
I’m in the studio, so I’m definitely working and at the same time, it’s just been about building relationships from doing Church Clothes 2 and taking some of those collaborations and turning them into some of the features they wanted me to do.
I’m also looking at some tour options and trying to see what all makes sense. That’s really what I’m doing right now. I’m just trying to make all of the dots connect.
