Maybach Music Group’s Wale saved the smiles and jokes for another day this week, appearing on MTV’s “RapFix” and refusing to talk about anything other than his upcoming The Gifted solo album.
Despite attempts by hip-hop personality Sway to get Wale to discuss his Instagram page, Ralph Folarin did not entertain any topics outside of the third LP’s theme.
“I’m not even gonna do all that other stuff. I’ma talk with the music. Until my album drop, until June 25, I’ma talk loud with the music,” Wale said, refusing to give any summations of his upcoming LP. “I’ve done everything I could do, I’ve said everything I could say. I’ve kissed the babies, I’ve shook the hands — now let’s let the music talk because I ain’t about to come here and tell y’all exactly how I feel no more. I’ma let it all sing in the music,” he huffed. (MTV)
After weeks of speculation, the Washington, D.C. native announced his new album’s title this week.
This afternoon on Twitter, hometown hip-hop star Wale announced that his third studio album will be titled The Gifted, and it’s expected to drop June 25. No word on whether the title of Wale’s new album was influenced by Nina Simone’s 1970 song “Young, Gifted, and Black,” but we can speculate. (Washington City Paper)
In early March, Wale hinted at announcing the LP’s title sooner but ultimately fell back.
“So should i push mine back… ill wait till fridday RT @ElliottWilson: Big announcement later today.,” he tweeted Wednesday (March 6).
“Folarin got his release date…. I’mma let y’all know on Friday!” (Wale’s Twitter)
Earlier this month, he suggested a summer release would likely suit his LP.
“I’m dropping my third solo album and then a couple months after that, I’m probably gonna drop the Nothin’ [mixtape] project,” Wale revealed in an interview. “I’m very creative. I’m knee-deep in that joint. It’s kind of like a personal thing. I design my records and the sound a certain way for two different projects. I’m not producing per se, but as far as orchestrating the sound and sequencing on the Nothin’ project. … [The album] will drop in the summer, summertime.” (Power 99 FM)
