Wale Demands Respect: “I Want People To Be Like, ‘Your Album’s Just As Good As Kendrick’s'”

Maybach Music Group artist Wale recently talked about his new The Album About Nothing project and why he is more concerned with respect than chart positioning this time around.

Wale said he hoped this album will finally open fans’ eyes and earn him the respect he deserves.

“Everyone says, “Be patient. It’ll happen.” But all signs are showing, “No, it won’t happen.” I’m okay with people not liking my music but provide an intelligent reason for why you like or don’t like something or you’re a hater or a d*ck-rider. This is my fourth album. I want some respect. I want to go to a party and not have Katy Perry tell her security to move me out of the f*ckin’ way. We do the same thing. I know there’s no union in the music industry, but have some respect. I want people to be like, “Your album’s just as good as Kendrick [Lamar]’s or Esperanza Spalding or Beck.” I work just as hard as them.” (Billboard)

MMG head Rick Ross confirmed Wale’s new album release date back in February.

While on the red carpet of the 57th Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 8, Ross confirmed to Billboard that Wale’s upcoming album, The Album About Nothing, will be released on March 31 — one of the reasons 2015 will be a “huge year” for MMG. “We are excited to see his level of excitement, see what he’s doing in the studio, most importantly see him back with his family [and] spending time with his son,” he said. 1. “I Want People To Be Like, ‘Your Album’s Just As Good As Kendrick’s’”….says the “Pat your weave” rapper.

  2. No, Wale you’re just some guy who thinks they’re better than they really are.

  3. Nobody owes you anything in this industry you made it in the limelight you made it that far now earn your position.

  4. And let’s be CLEAR, I heard half of this “Album About Nothing” project earlier today in fact, and it sounded SOLID. Lyrics were on point, and the beat selection was real right.

  5. Wale’s album is solid, as usual. Better than most. He has not made a bad album yet. But it’s not Kendrick level.
