An 18 year-old man suspected in the fatal killing of Seattle rapper 29-E has been charged with first degree murder and assault.
The suspect’s 25 year-old alleged accomplice has also been charged with a crime.
Carlos Bernardez is accused of killing 24-year-old Joseph Ryan, also known as 29-E, at Chop Suey early Sunday, according to charging papers filed in King County Superior Court…Roger La Branche, a 25-year-old Everett man who police say is connected with the case, was charged with drug possession. He is being held at the King County Jail on $500,000 bail. (Seattle Times)
The shooting sparked many in the community to address the ongoing violence themselves.
A friend to one of the wounded men has said members of the hip-hop community, including artists, producers, agents and owners, were reportedly set to meet Sunday night to discuss the frequency of violence in clubs around Seattle. (SOHH)
For now, both men will remain behind bars until later this month.
Roger Labranche, who remains a suspect as an accomplice to the shooting, was charged with possession of cocaine.
Bernardez is in jail on $2 million bail. If convicted as charged, he could face 32 to 40 years in prison.
Both defendants will be arraigned on Jan. 21 at the King County Courthouse. (Seattle’s King 5 News)
