According to reports, there is an active investigation taking place in light of the 19-year-old’s stunt.

The idiot who blackmailed rapper J. Cole on Twitter yesterday — by threatening to kill his little sister if J. Cole didn’t retweet him — is now being investigated by police, TMZ has learned. A rep for the New Braunfels Police Department in Texas tells us, they have opened an investigation into the 19-year-old responsible for the tweet … after the picture (showing the fan aiming a gun at his sister’s face) was brought to their attention. The rep says the teenager in question “is cooperating and it seems this was just a bad lapse in judgment.” Police say the gun in the picture is a BB gun, not an actual handgun. The rep adds, “For now this is still an open investigation, and for the time being no charges are being filed.” (TMZ)

Despite the threat of bodily harm, the teen claims his sister was in on the viral stunt.

As for the teenager — we spoke to the kid, and he has profusely apologized for sending the message, telling us, “I’d like to apologize to America for the photo and to put J. Cole in that position. It was all a joke.” He added, “It was an unloaded BB gun and my sister was in on it. I only tweeted it because I didn’t expect a response. Mr. Cole please don’t sue me. I want to formally apologize more to J. Cole and yeah my mom made me delete my twitter until I fixed it.” (TMZ)

The incident turned into a widespread national story this week.

Rapper J. Cole has been blackmailed by a fan who put a gun to the head of a little girl, threatening to shoot her if the rapper didn’t respond to his tweet. The fan left the disturbing message on Monday night, including a picture of a little girl looking down the barrel of a gun. The fan tweeted: “@JColeNC retweet me and I’ll buy Born Sinner. Don’t retweet me and I’ll kill my lil sister.” J. Cole responded to the blackmail attempt, retweeting the message. The person tweeting to the rapper claimed they were from Saudi Arabia, but TMZ noted there was no way to know for sure. (Inquisitr)

With his new Born Sinner finally available for purchase, some music sales experts suggest it won’t stand a chance outselling Kanye West‘s new Yeezus.

June 18 sees the release of three hip-hop sets that are all on course for sizable sales debuts: Kanye West’s “Yeezus,” J. Cole’s “Born Sinner” and Mac Miller‘s “Watching Movies With the Sound Off.” According to early sales forecasts from industry sources, “Yeezus” might sell 500,000 copies in its first week. Behind him will likely be “Born Sinner” with perhaps 150,000 to 200,000. “Watching Movies With the Sound Off” could sell as much as 100,000. If West and Cole both sell over 100,000 — which seems a sure thing — it will mark the first time two rap albums have debuted with more than 100,000 in the same week since November of 2010.
