UPDATE: Ja Rule’s Wife Is Always On Time, Release Details Surface

Hours after New York rapper N.O.R.E. spilled the beans on incarcerated comrade Ja Rule being released from prison, new details on what exactly is going down have emerged.

According to published reports, Rule’s wife picked him up from a federal prison Tuesday and he will complete the remainder of his time at home.

Federal authorities say platinum-selling rapper Ja Rule has left federal prison. The Federal Bureau of Prisons says he left a correctional facility in New York’s Adirondacks on Tuesday, though time remains on his sentence. The bureau says the release date for the 36-year-old rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Atkins, technically remains July 28, with possible community-based supervision for the balance. TMZ reports his wife picked him up and that he’ll remain in home confinement until then. (Philly)

While Ja has yet to speak out, N.O. proclaimed his freedom on Twitter Tuesday (May 7).

“Welcome home @Ruleyork,” N.O.R.E. tweeted, referring to Ja Rule’s Twitter account.

Recent reports suggested Rule would remain locked up through late July.

The 36-year-old rapper left a state prison in central New York last week after serving most of his two-year sentence for illegal gun possession and went straight into federal custody in a tax evasion case. The Federal Bureau of Prisons says he has since moved from an upstate jail to Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, which houses prisoners awaiting court dates or having short terms left on their sentences. The bureau said Thursday his expected release date is July 28. Ja Rule admits he failed to pay taxes on more than $3 million earned between 2004 and 2006 while he lived in New Jersey. (SF Gate)

A week prior, Rule bid farewell to serving time for his 2007 gun conviction case.

Platinum-selling rapper Ja Rule was set to leave an upstate prison on Thursday after serving most of his two-year sentence for illegal gun possession but head straight into federal custody in a tax case. The rapper, who had been in protective custody at the Mid-State Correctional Facility because of his celebrity, has some time remaining on a 28-month sentence for tax evasion, correction officials said. His sentences were expected to run concurrently. (CBS News)

In March, former Murder Inc. artist Ashanti talked about wanting to hook back up with Ja following his release.

“You know what,” Ashanti told a caller during an interview when asked if she would be doing anything with Ja Rule upon his upcoming release from jail. “Ja is actually going to be home in, I belive, late July. [The rumor of him getting released a few weeks ago,] yeah, it didn’t happen. I believe he will be out in late July and I know he’s fiending to get back into the studio. We are probably going to get down, you know what I mean, and do something. [laughs] Yeah. [We made a good combination], yes, definitely.” (“Sway In The Morning”)
