Although an autopsy is scheduled to take place today (May 2), the latest reports suggest drugs may have ended his life.

Chris Kelly, half of the 1990s kid rap duo Kris Kross who made one of the decade’s most memorable songs with the frenetic “Jump,” died at an Atlanta hospital on Wednesday of an apparent drug overdose at his home, authorities said. He was 34. “It appears it may have been a possible drug overdose,” said Cpl. Kay Lester, a spokeswoman for the Fulton County police. This, Lester said, is based on statements received at the scene as well as evidence turned up at Kelly’s home in south Atlanta. (Associated Press)

As of yesterday, the 34-year-old’s cause of death was still a mystery.

Investigator Betty Honey of the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office said the 34-year-old Kelley was pronounced dead around 5 p.m. Wednesday at the south campus of the Atlanta Medical Center. Honey said authorities are unsure of Kelly’s cause of death and that an autopsy has yet to be performed. Kelly, known as “Mac Daddy” performed alongside Chris Smith, known as “Daddy Mac,” in the early and mid-90s. The duo might be best remembered for the song “Jump” from their 1992 debut album, “Totally Krossed Out.” (Mercury News)

Local Atlanta radio station Streetz 94.5 has sent its condolences on his passing.

“THE STREETZ FAMILY SENDS OUR PRAYERS OUT TO THE FAMILY & FANS OF CHRIS KELLY FROM KRIS KROSS #RIPCHRISKELLY,” a tweet read from its Twitter page. (Streetz 94.5 ATL’s Twitter)

Former So So Def member Da Brat revealed her reaction to the shocking news.

The only main health complication Kelly is known for having is suffering from a scalp disease.

Alopecia Areata is a hair disease that affects hair loss from the human scalp, but more importantly, Alopecia Areata is the disease that has kept Kriss Kross member Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly out of the limelight for over a decade. Despite his condition, Mac Daddy still has his spirits up and in a recent interview says that he’s back in the studio -albeit on the production side. (Dime Wars)

Over the winter, Kriss Kross reunited to perform at a So So Def reunion concert.

Get ready to break out your backwards oversized gear again, because ’90s pint-sized rap duo Kris Kross are all growed up and ready to jump jump back into the spotlight. It’s been 21 years since Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith became famous for those ridiculous outfits — and their monster hit “Jump” — and they’ve just announced they are reuniting for a 20th anniversary all-star concert honoring So So Def Recordings in Atlanta next month.
