Rap mogul Jay-Z's sidekick Young Guru has revealed his laptop was stolen over the weekend while briefly away from his vehicle in Washington, DC.
Guru initially broke the news Saturday but then hopped back onto his Twitter page a day later to affirm no unreleased tunes would leak from his stolen computer.
“My bag just got stolen from the car in DC, this is the worst!!!!! Broken glass is nothing just give me my computer!!!!,” Guru tweeted April 20th.
“And no I didn’t have unreleased music on my laptop. This was my serato laptop. So you haters can calm down!!!,” he wrote April 21st. (Young Guru’s Twitter)
Just last month, YG exclusively premiered rapper Kendrick Lamar‘s Jay-Z-assisted “Don’t Kill My Vibe” remix at Texas’ annual South By Southwest music festival.
During Jay-Z’s engineer Young Guru’s DJ set tonight at SXSW 2013, he played a remix of Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city joint “B***h Don’t Kill My Vibe,” featuring none other than Hov himself. No word on when this will be officially released, but peep the footage above to listen. Sounds super fresh. (Complex)
A few years ago, R&B singer Ryan Leslie had his laptop stolen while overseas.
Jurors taught a big-talking hip-hop artist a lesson about broken promises yesterday when they ordered him to pay the $1 million reward he had offered for the return of his stolen laptop. Cheapskate performer and producer Ryan Leslie must fork over the Benjamins to auto-repair-shop owner Armin Augstein, who found the computer while walking his dog and turned it over to German cops in November 2010. Augstein, who returned home to Pulheim, Germany, after testifying against Leslie in Manhattan federal court, told The Post by phone he felt “very good” about the verdict. “I’m very happy . . . that the American judicial system, which is so totally different from ours, functioned so well with a jury that are not professionals and are laymen,” he said in German through one his lawyers, Steven Thal. After putting up $1 million as a reward for its safe return and not paying it up, Leslie was legally ruled against in a New York court earlier this year.
A Grammy-nominated rapper whose music files disappeared when his laptop was stolen was ordered to pay nearly $1.2 million to a German man who claims to have found the computer in a forest. “He made a second reward video and offered $1 million for just the intellectual property on the external hard drive and computer, the session files,” David DeStefano, Leslie’s attorney, told ABC News. “They’re different from just an MP3, MP3s are nothing for a producer or a studio engineer, they can’t do anything with them. They need the session files. These were his compositions.” On Friday, the court once again sided with Augstein and ordered Leslie to pay an additional $180,000 to Augstein for interest that accrued between when the laptop was found, in 2010, and when the decision came down from federal court in 2012.
