Former Def Jam rapper Leonard “Uncle Murda” Grant pleaded no contest on Friday (March 6) to misdemeanor charges stemming from a fake identification card incident last May.
Murda reportedly attempted to use the card for entry at California’s Los Angeles International Airport last spring.
He presented the fraudulent card to a security screener May 14, according to the City Attorney’s Office. Grant pleaded no contest to one count of possession of a counterfeit California identification card. The photograph on the card was of Grant, but the identification number was traced to another individual, according to the authorities. (Daily Breeze News)
Despite being an authentic card, it did not belong to Murda.
“It was a legitimate ID. But it was the ID of another individual,” said Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the city attorney’s office. “He was trying to pass it off as his own. His motivation for doing so is unknown.” “Commissioner Mark Zuckman sentenced Grant to 18 months probation and ordered him to perform 50 hours of community service,” a statement from City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo‘s office read. Murda’s popularity grew as a member of Jay-Z‘s Roc-A-Fella Records prior to his departure last year.
“There’s just so much bullsh*t with the labels. I’m no longer with Def Jam. I’m a free agent and I’m still hot,” Murda said in an interview. “Things ain’t work out over there. Once Jay-Z left, you know, they ain’t really know what to do with Uncle Murda.” (Vlad TV)
Along with rapping, Murda recently launched his own website.
“Right now, I’m on my computer sh*t, this is firstdegreemurda.com,” Murda said via his web page. “The reason why I set this sh*t up is so you can see all the murders taking place across the world, not just New York — you can also see a lot of the sh*t that the police be doing, like they be doing a lot of bullsh*t, if you go check up on my site, you got ex-police, ex-officers raping girls, beating up people in wheel chairs, all types of sh*t.” (First Degree Murda)
