Odd Future's Tyler, the Creator is letting the world know this week should be acknowledged as Wednesday (July 26) marked the six-year anniversary of producer Pharrell Williams' In My Mind solo debut.
Not only mindful of the date, Tyler revealed Pharrell’s LP is one of his all-time favorites.
“Oh, dude, I love that album. That’s, like, my favorite album,” the Odd Future MC told MTV News on Wednesday (July 25) of the Grammy-nominated LP. We’re not sure how many people actually took the time to acknowledge Pharrell’s anniversary, but it’s safe to say Tyler was one of a select few — if not the only one. “I hit him up today like, ‘Hey, today’s your six-year anniversary!’ ” Tyler recalled of the conversations he and Skateboard P had earlier Wednesday. “He was like, ‘Thanks,’ and I was like, ‘All right, my n—a.'” (MTV)
Last year, Pharrell revealed how he missed out on an opportunity to ink Tyler to a record contract.
“I was on my tour bus and my homeboy Scott Vener was like, ‘Yo, you got to hear these kids called Odd Future. It’s this kid Tyler, the Creator. This sh*t is dope. You should sign them.’ It’s funny because I was just bumping their sh*t and looking at all [Tyler’s] YouTubes, you know, where the songs were uploaded on YouTube, just listening to it. And then I found [their manager] Chris Clancy and by the time I found Chris, they were already talking about signing — I missed that boat. I was mad as sh*t but I’m happy because Clancy’s idea to have them as the youngest in charge doing their own sh*t — just all of the stuff I always preach about, he was very head strong about making sure they did that. It had nothing to do with me but it was just interesting to see some sh*t that I had said and things I wanted to see happen were actually happening. Young kids deciding they wanted to do music their way, some sh*t they want to say and just take their destiny by the horns and just go.” (Sucker Free)
In April 2011, Tyler called Williams one of his favorite music idols.

To date, Pharrell’s In My Mind has sold nearly 900,000 units.
The album includes the three already-released singles “Can I Have It Like That” (featuring Gwen Stefani), “Angel” (only released in the UK) and “Number One” (featuring Kanye West) and performances featuring Jay-Z, Nelly, Slim Thug, Snoop Dogg, Lauren London, Jamie Cullum and Pusha T of Clipse. Originally the album had been slated for release on November 15, 2005, but the date was delayed at Pharrell’s request. The album debuted at #3 and sold 142,000 copies in the first week, outsold by LeToya’s debut album and the compilation Now 21. The album has sold 889,025 copies worldwide. (Wikipedia)
