A couple months ago, G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks announced he would drop new tracks on Fridays.
“I’m not gonna stop putting out mixtape material, I don’t know if I’m gonna put it out in the form of a mixtape,” Banks explained in an interview. “But every Friday, I’ve been releasing a new record. Every Friday for ‘Blue Fridays.’ So I figure we do that for the next eight, nine weeks and by the time the album comes out, [the fans] will have a mixtape if they put it all together.” (WV Soul Magazine)
In August, Kanye West revealed his idea for G.O.O.D. Music Fridays.
“I know yall need the music so I’m dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas. It may be my song it may be a new Jay song etc…,” he tweeted in August.
“I’m calling it good Fridays. Yall know every Friday yall gone have a new joint from our family. We look at the game completely different now.” (Kanye West’s Twitter)
Timbaland joined Twitter last month and promised to keep fans updated on a regular routine.
“Surprise, surprise, save the best for last,” Timbaland said in a video. “[I’m] finally on Twitter. So now you can tweet me but probably what I’ll be doing, all those other Twitter pages and all those other accounts, this is the real Timbaland account. Timbaland007. I’m getting that clear so everybody with these other fake Timbaland names, this is gonna solidify the real Twitter. I’m here — so now you can follow me. I’ll give you snippets of what I’m doing and why I’m doing the stuff, right here, Timbaland007. All those other Twitter pages? Delete from your Twitter account.” (Perception Media Group)
