1. Long Run

Is Timbaland getting ready to retire? Not quite. He’s had a great run in the music biz but it looks like he’s going to hang up the microphone on doing his own albums. Rolling Stone is on it:

What do you mean it’s your Purple Rain?
It’s my grand finale. It’s my voila. This is why you call me Timbaland. This is why you say I’m the greatest who ever did it.

Grand finale? That implies that it’s the last one.
It could be, for like me doing solo, because it’s not about me. It’s about my artists, so you know, I’m just being the teacher. The people that I birth, I want to help them shape their careers because they have longevity. Mine, I’m at a stage where I want to enjoy my wife, I want to enjoy my family a little bit more. I just want to enjoy life. I worked so hard to get to this point that I haven’t really sat down to enjoy life the way I should enjoy it.

It ain’t spending money, it’s just simpleness of life, and I just want to get back to it. Like, when I was a kid going to high school dating a girl, you know? Treating life like we just had each other. When you’re in this music world, it’s hard to do that. So I’ll probably take a break. (Rolling Stone)

2. Stand Up

Can we call Ludacris a hip-hop mogul? It sounds like a joke when you initially think about it but when you really look at everything he’s accomplished, from music to movies, is it too crazy to imagine? News Net 5 has info on his newest accomplishment:

Rapper LUDACRIS will be honored with the President’s Award at the Broadcast Music, Inc. R&B/Hip-Hop Awards in Los Angeles next month (Aug13).

The Area Codes hitmaker will be feted in recognition of his achievements in songwriting and his global influence over the past 16 years of his career.

Announcing the news, BMI Vice President Catherine Brewton says, “We are proud to be honoring Ludacris with our President’s Award. He is a hometown hero to the city of Atlanta, who has had a remarkable career in music, film and television.

“His consistency in the industry, as well as his outreach in the community proves he is more than deserving of the BMI President’s Award.” (News Net 5)

Is Ludacris going to go down as one of hip-hop’s best artists outside of just rapping? Is he a role model? #SOHHWhatchaThink?

3. Wing Or Die

How focused is Rick Ross on making positive contributions to the world? Or at least to the local community? The “Bawse” is sending a message everyone should appreciate it. Radio has the scoop:

Rick Ross wants you to enjoy the wings at the Dallas-based chicken chain, Wingstop, which he bought back in April. But preferably without a gun by your side.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Ricky Rozay spoke out about bringing firearms into public places like restaurants saying, “I support the right to bear arms, I do. I’m a licensed carrier.” But, “When I go into public places, when I go out and I enter certain places, I believe it’s best to leave your firearm in your vehicle. Go in and enjoy your meal.”

Ross’ opinions on the topic may have something to do with the events in March of 2013 when he was ambushed by gunmen who shot at his Rolls-Royce in Florida. In March 2013, Ross was ambushed by gunmen who shot at his Rolls Royce on a Florida street. It was reported that Ross was carrying a 9 mm handgun with 12 live rounds at the time of the drive by shooting. (Radio)

Could Rick Ross’ message be heard? Will things change? #SOHHWhatchaThink?

That about wraps it up for today. This is SOHH On The Spot giving you the morning scoop from your favorite gossip sites.
