Public Enemy's Chuck D has come forward to lash out against controversial remarks made by real estate mogul Donald Trump relating to President Barack Obama's race and background.

Chuck believes the hip-hop community has grown soft and is not willing to stand up.

“If rappers are so bold like they used to be there would be like 10 diss records for Donald Trump right now,” Chuck said in an interview. “But the average rapper is afraid because they don’t know if Trump will have money for them one day. Money has brought their fear out. There are supposed to be 20 cats lined up cursing Trump the fuck out. This is supposed to be hip-hop, right?” (VIBE)

The rap veteran also said Americans should have more faith and trust in their president.

“President Obama is going to make a lot of moves that will make you go OMG and WTF, but this is the President of the United States,” Chuck added. “So whatever little move that he can make for you, you got to fight for it. This whole thing with Donald Trump…he’s on some bullsh*t. Someone needs to say, ‘Yo, Donald Trump…you full of sh*t and I’m going to seriously f*ck you up.’ That’s what the rap community used to do, but now nobody can make that statement because everybody feels politically in debt.” (VIBE)

Trump drew concern over the week after publicly calling out President Obama’s birth certificate.

Donald Trump has been accused of racism. First, it’s because of his focus on the ‘birther’ issue. Critics say no other US president has been accused of not being born in the US. Accusations against Obama, then, must stem from racism. “The birther thing is entirely racial. They’ve never asked a white Republican or Democratic about their birth certificate,” said liberal political commentator Cenk Uygur. Then, there is Trump’s questioning of how Obama got into Harvard and Columbia Universities. Trump also said he has friends whose children are highly accomplished but weren’t accepted into these prestigious schools. (International Business Times)

Late night talk show host David Letterman stood up for President Obama and hinted at a possible Trump ban on his program.

“It’s all fun, it’s all a circus, it’s all a rodeo, until it starts to smack of racism. And then it’s no longer fun,” Letterman told Dr. Phil McGraw last night (April 28) on The Late Show, referencing Trump’s comments about Obama’s education. Dr. Phil McGraw attempted to defend Trump, saying, “I don’t think he always thinks everything through. I think sometimes he’s a little from the hip, and I don’t think he has a racist bone in this body.” But Letterman made it clear that if Trump appeared on his show, he’d have to apologize. “If he comes back on this show, and I am not sure we want him back on this show under these circumstances, he ought to be prepared to apologize just for that kind of behavior.” (USA Today)
