R&B star The-Dream has finally opened up about revealing his past suicidal thoughts earlier this year and what ultimately made him fight through to continue making music.
Admitting he thought about suicide on a daily basis, Dream explained how he overcame the mental struggle.
“I think it was just how my mind works. You have so many things rushing through your mind and I was trying to figure out how to make it stop. It’s easy to look at someone and say there’s 80,000 different ways for you to deal with it. No. Maybe for you, but me having to one, be in control of every aspect of my life and two, loving people how I do and being so thoughtful… when certain things are out of control, if it’s the type of personality that I have, you start to lean towards the best way to make it end. Like what stops this for not only me, but everyone?” (VIBE)
He also credits the success of producing Rihanna’s “Umbrella” for speeding up his life.
“Of course that’s not the smartest thing to do, which is evidently why I’m still here. But it’s just one of those things that creeps into your mind when you’re not even paying attention. As soon as “Umbrella” happened I was nonstop, everything was crazy. It’s not about having a pity party, it’s just the truth of my life. What led me to that thinking was taking everything and everyone so serious instead of doing things the way I think about my music. Which is who gives a f–k what you think? Everything is speculation so it’s like how do I say something so you do understand, but you don’t blame me or blame Christina. But since everyone has me as the bad person, I’ll just be the bad motherf–ker. And eventually I just got over it.” (VIBE)
Last summer, Dream released an open letter addressing his divorce from R&B singer Christina Milian after getting accused of cheating.
“I’m sorry for the embarrassment to everyone involved! If there’s anyone to blame and you can’t fathom this happening, please blame me and me alone for not being upfront! Even though we were trying to overcome personal things between us, I was just simply scared and embarrassed to let everyone know we WERE FAILING and HAVE NOW FAILED! This is not to justify anything, it’s true emotion! It’s a real thing that involves real people! I’ve cried about this for months, after interviews, after prayer and I’ve tried to take my own life at a point because of the failure that was looming. But I was reminded by my MOTHER that I am not “Superman” and its okay to lose sometimes… This too shall pass! And everything will be fine!” (The Life Files)
Speculation on his marriage with Milian being on the outs emerged in mid-summer 2010.
The-Dream spent his weekend in the arms of a woman other than his wife Christina Milian. The singer-songwriter was seen getting friendly with a mystery woman on the beaches of the Caribbean without his wife or wedding ring. Milian, who gave birth to the couple’s daughter Violet in February, didn’t address the photos directly, but she did tweet earlier this morning: “WHATEVER YOU THINK.. BELIEVE IT.” It wasn’t long ago that The-Dream and Christina were spotted enjoying their own island vacation together. (Rap-Up)
