The Clipse's Pusha T has confirmed recent speculation that he will be dropping his first solo effort.
According to Pusha, solo albums from both he and Malice makes the most sense.
“We got Re-Up Gang Records, so we’re trying to exercise every aspect of putting music out there. The Clipse will definitely be putting more music out. But it only makes sense for us to do solo projects and build a catalog with solo records by ourselves as well as [our artist] Ab Liva…I think I’ve grown with every Clipse album, but there’s an emotional side of Pusha that people need to see. I want people to get a little more in tune with my thought process. A lot of times people hear me and think, ‘Wow! That’s a dope verse!’ but it’s way beyond that with me. I want people to understand who I am and get inside my thought process. I think I can do that with a solo project.” (VIBE)
Last week, Pusha turned the rumor mill by informally announcing solo projects at a show.
During a concert performance on Friday, April 30, the Clipse — brothers Pusha T and Malice — dropped news that they plan to release solo albums in the next few months. Pusha T took a quick pause between songs to tell the crowd that he and his brother Malice would release separate albums this year. “2010 new Clipse music, new Re-Up Gang music, solo projects by myself, Pusha and Malice,” he said. Their latest album, Til The Casket Drops, landed on the sales charts last December.
The Clipse even things out in Top 50 as Til The Casket Drops debuts at No. 46. With a week in the books, the duo’s third group project has moved 31,500 records. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
Earlier this year, Pusha talked about how he composes his own rap lyrics.
“I have the coolest little writing journal. I love to just blackout in it, and I can’t wait! It’s like everything. I’m just taking on all beats and all types of sh*t and just spilling,” Pusha said about his pen game. “To me, not too many people are good at freestyling. Everyone always talks about how they freestyle lyrics. Freestyling lyrics with no depth is stupid to me. That’s corny. I can do that. I’ve done it, and it’s never as detailed as it could be. Someone like Jay-Z that does that has mastered it. People try to mimic, but they don’t understand, you can mimic the process but you have to master it to have that type of effect. I freestyle melodies. I’ll find a melody by just vibing with a record, but not actual lyrics. That’s a puzzle.” (Artist Direct)
