Just days after the world gasped after learning the news of a Chicago baby being fatally shot multiple times, an equally horrific murder has taken place ending the life of a 13-month-old in Georgia.
Details of the horrific slaying have surfaced online and suggest two men were responsible for the baby’s murder.
Two Georgia monsters Friday shot and killed a helpless baby for nothing as he sat in his stroller. The senseless point-blank execution came seconds after the killers — teenagers — shot and wounded the tot’s terrified mother in a botched robbery. “Do you want me to shoot your baby?” one of them said, before ending the 13-month-old boy’s life, police said. Little Antonio Santiago‘s mom Sherry West, although wounded, gave cops a detailed description of the teens — a 17- and 14-year-old — who were arrested Friday. West also gave a gut-wrenching account of what allegedly happened when the older boy pointed a gun at her. “I said, ‘No, don’t kill my baby!’ ” But he did anyway, she said. And West, who reportedly lost her 18-year-old son to senseless violence five years earlier, was left to bury another child — and to wonder why the teen with the gun wouldn’t believe her. Despite already arrests, a family relative to one of the suspects claims he had nothing to do with the horrific murder.
Police announced the arrests of Elkins and the 14-year-old Friday afternoon. But Katrina Freeman, Elkins’ aunt, said Saturday that he couldn’t be the killer because the two were together at the time of the shooting. Freeman said Elkins dropped by her home about 8:15 a.m. — roughly an hour before the shooting — and she cooked them grits, eggs and sausage for breakfast. They stayed at her home until about 11 a.m., Freeman said, and then Elkins accompanied her and her children on some errands for about an hour. After noon, he left for classes he’s taking to earn his GED, she said. “He was with us the whole time,” said Freeman, adding that she gave police the same account of her nephew’s whereabouts. “There is no doubt in my mind that he is innocent.” Brunswick police have said little about what evidence led them to Elkins or the younger suspect. Police spokesman Todd Rhodes said Saturday that he’s not surprised Elkins’ aunt would try to protect him. (USA Today)
Just last week, six-month-old baby Jonylah Watkins lost her life to gun violence in Chicago.
A team of doctors at Comer Children’s Hospital struggled for 12 hours to try to save the life of 6-month-old Jonylah Watkins, but the damage was overwhelming. Jonylah was shot several times as her father changed her diaper inside a vehicle in the 6500-block of South Maryland. “This sweet baby had almost every organ system touched. Her lung was touched. Her liver was touched. Her diaphragm was destroyed,” Dr. Rachel Wolfson said. For 12 hours, doctors treated the baby in both the operating room and the intensive care unit. They say she was bleeding profusely and needed her blood volume replaced at least five times. (ABC Local)
The horrific slaying inspired fellow Chi-town rapper Lupe Fiasco to pen a tribute record in her honor.
Earlier in the week on Monday, a six month old infant girl named Jonylah Watkins died after being shot 5 times in Southside Chicago while her Father was changing her diaper. Lupe Fiasco took to Twitter today to release a new track titled ‘Jonylah Forever’ as a dedication and tribute to that six month old girl. Powerful and emotional song from Lupe, who is a Chicago native himself. Lupe also left us with a short message: “Not a song but a life. Be respectful. Please keep negative comments to yourself. #lovelifechitownforever,”. Produced by Soundtrakk. Take a listen to ‘Jonylah Forever’ below. Rest in Peace. (Direct Lyrics)
