Country music star Taylor Swift's recent hip-hop covers have continued as she sang TLC's "Unpretty" single during a Philadelphia concert over the weekend.
Along with TLC, Swift performed one of singer Pink’s tracks during her Saturday (August 6) performance.
Taylor Swift pulled into Philadelphia last night for the latest stop on her “Speak Now” tour, surprising fans with another cover song. The country crooner performed an acoustic version of TLC’s 1999 hit “Unpretty,” which was released when she was just 10 years old. In addition, she took on hometown hero Pink’s “Who Knew” while strumming the guitar. During previous shows, the 21-year-old singer has covered Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” and Pras, Mya, and ODB’s hip-hop classic “Ghetto Supastar,” calling it her “seventh grade anthem.” (Rap-Up)
A few days ago, Swift caught eyes by performing Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”
Even if Eminem’s lyrics are saying something like “I love you,” he raps it in such an angry way that any affection is pretty lost. That’s the way Eminem is, we know, but sometimes we would like to hear a softer side to his songs–and now we can! Cutie-patootie Taylor Swift decided to take out her inner thug and cover the hit song “Lose Yourself” during her show in Grand Rapids, Mich., but the gangster vibe didn’t really last… T.Swift punctuated her performance with a random “Yo!” here and there, but that’s about as street as the country crooner can get. Still, Taylor strumming her guitar as she half-raps, half-sings the lyrics is an adorable sight to see. It’s also probably the nicest Eminem song we’ll ever hear. (E! Online)
Earlier this year, Swift surprised fans by performing rapper Nicki Minaj‘s “Super Bass” track during an interview.
During a visit to Nashville’s 107.5 The River, radio jocks gave the singer the opportunity to request one song. Swift opted for Minaj’s ‘Super Bass’, a track off her debut album, ‘Pink Friday’. The country crooner, rather shyly, admitted she was able to recite the words to the rapper’s track. Though she revealed she usually only spits a verse in the comfort of her own car, Swift demonstrated her rhyming abilities by rapping a few choice lines during her interview. Once finished, Taylor seemed a bit embarrassed over how she performed. “I just rapped acappella very badly,” she stated. “But it’s a good enough song.” (AOL Music Blog)
Not only an admirer of Minaj and Em, Swift recently said she hearts 50 Cent.
“They say [my new album hasn’t sold as many first-week copies as] 50 Cent,” Swift told Chelsea Handler with a smile. “Yeah, in 2005, he had a big record. I’m a big fan of 50 Cent. I think you’re a big fan? I love 50 Cent. That’s my thing. When we were on tour, we have all three girls. The back-up singers, the fiddle player and me, all in one room and we all warm up to 50 Cent music. And it’s kinda surprising [if you knew] how many lyrics I know. Yeah.” (“Chelsea Lately”)
