Grammy-winning singer T-Pain recently revealed how close one-time collaborator Kanye West came to releasing an actual diss track aimed at him and how much wrath he put into the unheard anthem.

According to Pain, he stuck around Kanye during the creation of Auto-Tune-heavy 2008 album 808s & Heartbreak and witnessed the track’s creation.

In a recent interview with VladTV, T-Pain claims the process wasn’t as enjoyable as you would think. He recalls one instance where Kanye West put him on blast during a studio session, and that everyone present joined in. “He came up with this song for me, and it wasn’t a good song,” T-Pain says. “It was basically describing how wack my ideas was that I was coming up with. And he made everybody in the studio join in with him to sing like, ‘T-Pain’s sh*t is weak.'” (Complex)

Although the diss went at him, Pizzle said he thought it could have made its way onto the LP.

He also says the song was “pretty lyrical,” which impressed him in a weird way. “I actually thought he should have put that on the record at some point. But it would have been a diss record. I thought that was pretty f*cked up.” (Complex)

Last year, Pain said his brief absence from the music scene was largely due to wanting to switch his style up and experiment.

“I went off for a little while trying to reinvent myself and try[ing] to do different music and stuff. Everybody was saying that you need to switch it up,” Pain tells XXL on the phone while on the way to the studio in Atlanta. “That was the Revolver album, and it didn’t do as good as I wanted it to. People like familiarity. People like to know what is happening. It was only right that I go back to what made me the T-Pain I am today.” (XXL Mag)

Earlier this year, Pain hit up SOHH and discussed banking on his own “T-Pain Effect” device.

“I’m all for everyone expressing themselves in any way they want. That’s the only thing that has allowed me to have the amazing success that I’ve had,” Pain told SOHH via an exclusive statement. “I made the T-Pain effect because that’s what everyone was calling it (auto tune) anyways. I figure I had better capitalize off of it and make my own pitch correction software.” (SOHH)
