“Also. Nappy is a state of mind. Not an appearance. I’m still the Nappy Boy BossMan.” (T-Pain’s Twitter)

A few months ago, rumors of rap star Lil Wayne cutting off his dreads bubbled online.

In the photos, it looked as if Wayne had cut off his locks, but MTV News contributor Kelley L. Carter — who watched Tunechi perform at a pre-Super Bowl party in New Orleans and even posed for a picture with the “A Milli” MC — said Weezy’s wig is still intact. “I’m pretty sure he still had his dreads and they were pulled back in a ponytail,” she told us Friday (February 1). “In fact, I’m like 1,000 percent positive. I would’ve noticed that.” Carter sent MTV News some exclusive photos that she snapped that ultimately debunk the hair-chopping theory. The angle mixed with the manner in which the rapper had his hair tied back did make it seem as if he had gotten a haircut and was wearing a mini-afro, but the picture was deceiving. (MTV)

A couple years ago, rapper Murs talked to SOHH about cutting off his iconic hair and noted artists like Weezy F. Baby keeping the long hair movement alive.

“Maybe it was the time,” Murs told SOHH, referring to the popular trend of artists cutting off their long hair. “Lil Wayne still has it and he’s the king. Or he’s the king of the young people I should say. It definitely had a lot to do with me, learning about myself. To me, it puts more pressure to stand out more from the action of my words rather than just the hairstyle. A lot of people think I smoke weed [because of the stigma associated with long locks].” (SOHH)
