While Tip acknowledged the value of strong record sales, he did stress the value in making quality music.

“Don’t get me wrong, everybody wants to do well in everything that they do, but at the same time you have to judge yourself based on a scale of the statistics of what’s considered normal or acceptable for today. Ultimately the fans receiving it and really being able to relate to the music and really appreciating it as much as we appreciated putting it together, that is more important to us at this point in time.” (Rap-Up)

The “King of the South’s” new Paperwork solo offering is expected to sell at least 65,000 units in week one.

Just in time for Halloween, horror-rockers Slipknot will be at the front of the line for chart treats next week. Slipknot (Roadrunner) 100-110k
Neil Diamond (Capitol) 70-80k
Logic (Def Jam) 65-70k
T.I. (Grand Hustle/Columbia) 65-70k (HITS Daily Double)

Tip relied on mega producer Pharrell Williams to oversee the LP.

For his first album post-“Blurred Lines,” T.I. has brought on that song’s mastermind, Pharrell Williams, as executive producer. Nothing seems off-limits here – an X-rated slow grind alongside Chris Brown, a post-Trayvon political rant with Public Enemy-ish lyrics, and two unlikely Williams concoctions that sound like robo-Vegas Curtis Mayfield. 1. Pretty good album though, not all high tempo pretty easy listening and TIP got some cool lil lyrics too. I believe he beat out Jeezy. The iTunes sales should be pretty good even if his first week sales aren’t when people listen to it there should be a spurt.

  2. logic selling as much as tip first week?..didn’t kno his buzz was that serious

  4. I think now it probably makes sense to redefine sales. I think album sales should be the amount of the whole album actually sold + an additional one album for every 10(or 12) singles sold from an album. That might give a better overall picture of how much an artist is actually selling. For example, nowadays, a one hit wonder is someone(a group) that has one hit song. It seems that in the past, most one hit wonders would be able to parlay that big song into huge amount of album sales. A rapper like Trinidad James most likely would have had a multi platinum album by now just because of that hit he had.

    • Well the labels now a days don’t know when they have a hit song so there is no follow up.
