Grammy-winning rapper T.I. is still unfazed by recent incidents like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting or Rick Ross' near-death experience earlier this week and is sticking to loose gun control laws.

While Tip is legally not allowed to have a gun, he still views them as a vital part of society.

“I can’t possess a firearm (due to previous convictions), so whether they make them illegal or not is gonna be the same thing for me. But I see a need for them. I’ve been in circumstances where I’ve had them every day and nothing happened. I’ve been in circumstances where I didn’t have them, and I needed them. In certain areas of society, having a firearm is just as common as having bottled water. … If you’re a shopkeeper, a barbershop owner, a convenience store owner and you handle cash in and out of this area, if everyone knows that you don’t have a firearm, then you are basically prey. In these areas, bullets are just as common as sticks of gum, you know what I’m saying? So I think I speak for those people.” (Reuters)

Recently, Tip spoke out on the Sandy Hook massacre and explained why he still felt it is necessary to have a firearm handy.

“It’s a tragedy and it’s a travesty, it was a catastrophic event. My heart goes out to the families. As a parent, there’s no way that you can hear or see or observe something like that go on and not be touched in your heart. Just to know somewhere so sacred, somewhere that is supposed to be completely off limits to any kind of wrongdoing, something like that can happen to kindergarteners — I don’t want to run the risk of sounding inappropriate but that is exactly the reason why I had mines. At any time, if anybody calls me, anytime, when I had mines, I’m pulling up with ’em and the whole perimeter will be secure and ain’t nobody moving but us. … I haven’t been to the military but I’m very militant-minded when it come to protecting.” (“Sway In The Morning”)

Despite feeling a need for firearms, Tip did recently say some modifications should be made.

“I think as much as we can afford to be in place, should be done. I think there should be some adjustments made to the criteria that must be made in order for you to be allowed to have [a weapon]. … I think the complete overall ban of firearms’ a bad idea simply because if you do that, then you say the only people who are going to have guns, are the ones willing to break the law to keep them. That means you are putting the guns in the hands of only the criminals.” (Hot 93.7)

Last week, Midwest rap veteran Tech N9ne said parents and adults should take heat for allowing access to weapons in their households.

“Discipline starts at home. If your mom has guns like that in the basement, what the f*ck is your mom doing? Is she with the militia? You know those are [Adam Lanza‘s] mom’s guns right? I’ve got three [children]. I’ve got two 18-year-olds and I have a 13-year-old. When they were growing up I had them listening to Tech N9ne. I let them listen to Eminem. I talked to them about they problems at school, people, everything. Now, these kids being neglected. Why would Adam Lanza even know how to work these guns if his mom was paying attention?” (The Boom Box)
