Grammy-winning rapper T.I. is looking to treat fans to some free music heading into 2012 by announcing plans to drop a new mixtape, F*ck Da City Up, on New Year's Day.
Tip informally broke the news to his 1.3 million Twitter followers this week.
“Breaking News! Its official…I’m puttin out a mixtape midnight Jan.1 2012 called #F*ckdacityup Wanna be the 1st thing yall hear nxt year,” Tip tweeted December 12th.
“When da ball drop…We drop!!!! Out wit da old,in wit da TRUE!!!! Atown…. Weeee Baaaaaack!!!!!” (T.I.’s Twitter)
Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon is also putting out his own mixtape for the holiday season.
Raekwon announced on Twitter that he will be releasing a new mixtape that will be available on December 25th. The Chef has not revealed a track list for the mixtape but tweeted that it would be called ‘UnExpected Victory.’ The rapper announced the title of the mixtape on December 3rd, and back in July tweeted, “But on the other side of things I gotta mxtape comin out soon that’s. Gonna feel like a album, features, video wit no cut #straigthcoke!” (This Beat Goes)
Following a 2010 jail release, Tip teamed with DJ Drama for their F*ck A Mixtape project.
With his prison sentence finished as of March 26, T.I. is officially back and apparently looking to make a statement via the mixtape game. The ATL rapper could very well drop one of the better mixtapes of this year, as long as DJ Drama keeps the drops and shouting to a minimum. That might sound a little premature, but come on, we all heard the absolutely great “I’m Back.” And the fact he’s apparently returning to his grittier roots on his upcoming album should at least show that T.I.’s likely looking to kill it lyrically. Details remain up in the air on who will make a guest appearance F*ck A Mixtape, but I think we’ll at least hear B.o.B spit a verse or two. (Prefix Mag)
Tip is currently working on his upcoming Trouble Man LP, slated for an early 2012 release.
“My life inspires my lyrics at all times, so at that moment in time, when I first came home, I have about 15 songs just totally focusing on that,” T.I. said. “Out of those 15, I probably picked the two or three most significant, most compelling, impactful ones, and after I’ve been out for a minute, then I’ve got records totally focusing on speaking to people who can only focus on that and telling them I’m ready to move on. The name of the album is Trouble Man, and every song on here is about things that can get me in troubl — I’m reminiscing on the days when I used to run wild and do my thing the way I used to do it. I’ve got records that are just totally intellectually ignorant.” (MTV)
