The self-proclaimed “King of the South” relied on social media to rally support for Iggy.

Check out what Azalea said in response right here…

Banks made sure to directly address Tip on Twitter.

Iggy hopped onto her Twitter page last Friday (December 19) to lash at Banks.

Azealia recently said Iggy copied her entire style after Young Money’s Nicki Minaj.

“Nicki Minaj over the past two, three, four years has done so much to create this social presence, like consciousness, and then here you go. She’s like Re-Up and Roman Reloaded, and here go f*ckin’ Iggy like Reclassified. It’s like a cultural smudging was what I see.” (Hot 97)

Azealia also talked about Iggy snagging some Grammy Awards nominations.

“When they give these Grammys out, all it says to white kids is, β€˜You’re great. You’re amazing. You can do whatever you put your mind to.’ And it says to black kids, β€˜You don’t have sh*t. You don’t own sh*t, not even the sh*t you created yourself.’ And it makes me upset. … Put [Iggy] in the pop category. Put her and Miley Cyrus in the same f*ckin’ box together. Don’t put her in hip-hop. Just because she’s singing, does not mean she’s rap music.” (Hot 97)

  1. I hate this chick banks bitch….this will be the only thing she will be known for. Then she will crawl back into her pissy ass hole

    • Banks speak nothing but the truth
I know it hurt to see her speak against you master but it had to be done and she doing it, respect it or check it

      • When you point the finger at someone,4 are pointed at you. Banks aint speaking nous truth. Its the faut of the entire hip-hop community for doing nothing because that problem as ben there since the beggining of 2000 and nobody did something then. #Getyourfactstraight

          • Man you must be the stupidest Guy ever. Must have your head in your ass since 2000. Jay-Z touring with Timberlake instead of J-Cole. Nicky going pop then coming back to hip-hop ,Kanye bitching MTV on nomination, but MTV been the first to put lights on afro-american hip-hop. Fergy,Gwen…. Man open your eyes and get your fact straight. Hip-hop community is killing themself since wayyyyyy long by inaction when it was time to act.

      • u gotta be fukkin kiddin me!…this bum bitch has no hits yet feel the need to comment on every fukking rapper…this bitch is a nobody…her tracks flop…in austrailia niggaz throw soda cans at her…this bitch is a gup…lets say she did make a valid point…so what she finally got what she wanted…15 mins of people talkin about her then she gonna fade to black…fukk u and everybody that dickride this fraudulent bitch…look at her track record cant make a good song to save her life but she can tweet about her opinion on other rappers…smh…no one knows her in harlem she as relevant as lil mama

        • “this bum bitch has no hits yet”

          Soo….what is a “Hit” exactly?

Trick question….because a hit is whatever the label powers want it to be….in short the artist has little to do with why a song is a hit nowadays…Hopefully that opens a new perspective to their situation…

          • yea hits …because that is the only thing that should be relevant when it comes to recording artists…mother fick her political views they shouldve chose the political field if they wanted thier views to matter…but thats not what this is about…that banks chick has been hating on artists for a minute now (do ya research) this is about a no hit wonder mad at another artist because shes successful and found an opening/angle to attack her. What does banks resume consist of?…she been hating on iggy about the whole same name bullshyt…come on people yall cant be that blind

          • You missed the point of my comment….totally….I have no clue who or what point you are arguing but it has nothing to do with my comment.

This is also a common thing. Either you’re not understanding or not caring to understand….

  2. Great interview by ms banks, she keep it trill to herself. She ain’t right about everything but I dig how she stands up for herself and black folk creation. Tip protecting his white investment, I ain’t mad at the pimpin, but I also don’t ride with ol boy Yell

  3. Why Iggy? Why now? How many artists before her and male at that should have gotten the same backlash? People know how to pick their battles. How quick did artists defend Bieber? Eminem says wtf he eants no one says a word. Then they mis interpret one line from J Cole about Eminem and all hell broke loose SMH!!!

    • They chose iggy because she doesnt really stand out if you give her lyrics and style to a black female rapper then she would just be generic…. eminem however even though he has white priveledge as well…. is actually great at rapping and is considered one of the best by most of his peers… so he doesnt get it as bad… and they did come at macklmore for that grammy… but he over apologized way before it got too out of hand… so…

      • So what do they want from her? Have they even heard her album shes not tryna be the greatest rapper shes a pop artist. I think they heard the same one song that im sure everybody knows…I cant name name but one of her songs!!! I think they look at the success and thats where the problem lies. HELL im still salty about Macklemore winning the grammy than I am worried about Iggy. But since he over embellished on the apology the hip hop powers that be are ok. Just crazy

        • They want her to be authentic for 1… she a white woman from australia…. so then why are most of her lyrics making me believe she grew up in the hood… 2nd it would be fine with everyone if she was considered pop… which she is…. BUT she is nominated for best rap album…. so that in itself is pissing people off… she had one hit song that i know of and she gets nominated for like 5 grammies… cmon…. people wouldnt hate on the success if it were truly deserved..

          • i certainly agree with you. shes not the first and damn sure not the last. i just feel its easy for the critics cause shes a woman. i only know one song and other than her voice not being Australian shes not rapping about the hood i dont think, cause i only remember the chorus!!! the Best Rap album you gotta blame the Grammy committee for that theyve been doing it for YEARSSSSS. i just wish if they gon be mad theres a higher step on the ladder to start than with her. i wonder will any rappers protest even going to the Grammys or write open letters to the committee and the record labels? not that the committee will care but its a start. isnt it?

          • Yea but how do you use a ladder?… Has nothing to do with her being a female… its just now its getting out of hand… its not just the grammy nominations…. she is still gona seem insincere to people… and her voice she using along with her choice of words gives you the hood impression… and the fact that you are defending her without even really listening to her or being a fan is odd.. what arguement could you possibly really have for defending her other than her being a female…?

          • i never said i never listened to her. i only remember one song and listened to her whole album once cause it was FREE! thanks. im defending the fact she is female and the message and energy of outrage could have been used on so many others before her. is all i was saying. and i stand by my “opinion” that i think its cause she is a female and she does respond and doesnt hold her tongue when people come for her. if she was to never respond at any point, this much energy would not be wasted on her. and she is benefiting from the attention unfortunately.

          • Ok.. i just dont see how you can have an “opinion” on people coming for her when you havent taken the time to even try to figure out why people do…i mean at least trying to see if her music is what they say it is or not… then i could take it more seriously

          • Ive listened enough to form an opinion that I dont think its a big deal. And that we cant be upset with her and not with so many before her. And not with any of our own for the crap they get away with.

          • Well since im coming from a hiphop head standpoint… being someone that loves actual hiphop… there is plenty reason to be upset… every person before her except vanilla ice and macklemore has actual talent… so they get some what of a pass… macklemore acknowledged his bs…. So everyone got over it.. and now there is iggy… we will just agree to disagree…

          • Idk about all of that… im not in the studio with her.. but if true all the more reason to not be in hiphop.. you can be heard in hiphop… whats the point if you are using someone elses voice…

        • ” Have they even heard her album shes not tryna be the greatest rapper shes a pop artist.”

Yet she is in every Hip Hop category under the sun….

She might be Pop to you….but if thats how you feel then you are just speaking for yourself….

          • when i said “they” i mean all the critics. sorry! so that makes her pop to just me? im not making an argument im just tryna figure out what the big deal is. and I know for sure im not the only one. i would prefer her to Pop than labeled as a rapper. Pop is “popular music” is it not? according to the powers that be that make these categories. how many rappers have ended up in the pop category also? back to my opinion i dont think shes striving to be the greatest rapper, she came in with one hit song, and instantly became a pop artist. so now hip hop enthusiasts should no longer be worried about her!

          • What i’m saying is that there is major awards cooperation as well as an unlimited amount of music stations that would say she is definitely Hip Hop….no matter what kind of spin you may have on the terms….

” how many rappers have ended up in the pop category also?”

I don’t see how this helps your argument….

“i dont think shes striving to be the greatest rapper, she came in with one hit song, and instantly became a pop artist.”

I’m pretty sure she isn’t trying to be that either….thats the theme with many hip hop artist that are being promoted….however they are being idolized as if they were…thats the problem….when you start giving awards and accolades to people who are less skilled and capable then you are enabling people to view hip hop as a talentless genre…also she wasn’t a one hit example of stardom….she’s been a project for about 3 years now…it just took constant promotion and force feeding through major airways in order to sustain her influence….which is a standard in hip hop today….

“so now hip hop enthusiasts should no longer be worried about her!”

Yeah….say that to the 8 Major awards she was up for this year for Best Hip Hop artist/song….

I think you’re slightly misguided on how things work in the industry my dude….

          • ” how many rappers have ended up in the pop category also?”

I don’t see how this helps your argument….

what im trying to say is the artist isnt in charge of how they are categorized, are they?. unless the music they put out becomes bigger than they expected and becomes “popular” look at B.O.B he made GREAT “popular” songs and blew up and then felt he had to “prove” he was hip hop. so people being angry with her is not her fault for being categorized as hip hop/rap. how do you view her? what category?

i had no idea who she was until it Fancy was HUGE! goes to show you how much attention i paid. and probably wouldnt even be talking about her now if this recent issue was such a buzz. now imagine how many others are talking and probably buying more of her music, now they gon be more upset smh

“I think you’re slightly misguided on how things work in the industry my dude….”

im not trying to figure how things work in the industry it appears to not make sense to me at all anyway. and your statement further leaves me asking, is it an industry thing or the artist? i think its an industry thing not an Iggy thing. dont come for her, make a bold statement against industry somehow. “my dude” and thats ma’am btw πŸ™‚

          • ” is it an industry thing or the artist? ”

            Thats a great question….the answer is both….

One hand washes the other….the label powers can’t play ball without anyone thats willing to play the game….thats when your Iggy’s and 2 Chainz, and Nicki Minaj’s, and Lil Waynes and Rich Homie Quan’s come into the picture….in other words yes the artist ain’t shit…..we know this…but the labels are clearly the influence here….it sucks that so many people are weak for some fame and money but its a perspective i personally can’t speak from….i can shit on it tho…which is what i am doing now…lol.

They have been fishing Iggy around way before Fancy…and Fancy LINGERED….I MEAN SERIOUSLY…that shit was pushed heavily…way passed its normal expiration date….and it worked out…Lets be real…albums that sell 50k in its first week don’t make it to 400,000 without a major agenda push….some things can increase sales such as award shows and Black friday…but not that much….

Oh….and my apologies….ma’am….lol…People speak on the industry at times…but are afraid of getting Blackballed…especially considering their contractual obligations…i guess they feel they have to tread carefully or honestly believe they have a shot if they just switch it up or what have you…..they would be wrong…

        • She calls herself a hip hop artist. You may listen and hear pop. That’s what I hear too, but she claims she’s hip hop. What people dislike is how she emulates black culture in a way that is disrespectful. That fake ass “Blaccent” in her songs, her fake ass ass and her herself calling it a “ghetto ass”, and her not taking a stance on any black issues, but yet wanting to be black. She’s the epitome of the saying “everyone wants to be black until its time to be black” All while saying racist ass shit from time to time.

Mackelmore himself said he didn’t deserve it and aside from that he has a very open political view and protests often. He was authentic…. Eminem was authentic. Beastie Boys were authentic. She is fake as hell.

    • well now they are all freaking out cuz of the lyric in Eminem’s song about raping Iggy WHY I IGGY so IMPORTANT???? That is MY question

  4. TEAM BANKS ON THIS SHIT….FUCK THE SLAVE MASTER AND IF YOU DON’T AGREE, GO BUILD ANOTHER “CANDYLAND” OLE STEVEN ASS NIGGAZ….

  5. ….Why are people acting like Iggy is the first artist to get some kind of Blacklash for her BS in Hip Hop?

Her being White only amplifies it….as it should….but she isn’t the only one getting shit for being a mediocre MC while getting praised for it…..maybe if some of your realize this maybe you guys wouldn’t say so much ignorant shit…

    • its never been at this level. have you seen anyone of Q Tips stature say anything as open as recently about any other emcee we may deem mediocre? shes an easy target and thats my opinion.

      • If you honestly believe that Iggy is getting the worst of it then you are oblivious to a lot of whats been going on in Hip Hop for close to the last Decade….There have been plenty of targets…her being white only adds to it…thats why there is such a focus….as it should be…

        • first please clarify for me, if you will. what does being white in hip hop have to do with this? also i listen closely to podcasts, read articles, underground sites/music and all. the discussions are all good and discovering new artists is awesome. but nowadays social media and mainstream blogs is where most people view this kinda stuff. and sorry i have not seen anything on this level in the forefront until folk got mad at Iggy. im not defending her nor do i hate her, i just think its a tad bit lonnng over due and there are some before her that could use the same treatment. other than Macklemore winning a grammy and folk were mad for a week, what other male black or white has had such treatment? people have been mad for a long time YES and rightfully so!

          • Her being white has a lot to do with this….

Because it seems that a vast majority of things within Hip Hop that gets Whitewashed is what gets praised….it seems that the vast majority of things within Hip Hop that generalizes Black people as ignorant, talentless, materialistic sex fiends gets promoted…Anytime there is something even remotely positive…we would be lucky to get a nomination…(They chose NIGGAS IN PARIS over Daughters….really?) Macklemore was vastly praised for everything from being against materialism, to his disdain for social medial, to his gay rights antics…then given the praise as if he was the only one in Hip Hop to actively to this….meanwhile he promotes materialism through most of his shows by becoming a walking billboard of brands….by selling that very song against social media to Microsoft for a outlook express commercial…and people forgetting that MURS (who is black) been on that gay rights tip for years while putting himself out there and NEVER throwing Hip Hop under the bus in the process….Why isn’t he promoted or praised? They both suppose to be underground right? My point dogs….

You want someone that gets bashed? Go down the list….Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, hell even J Cole got a lot of shit for his usage for the word “Nigga”….Negative Hip Hop has always been an topic of discussion and many artist get shit for it…but it is a little more alarming when the same type of artist does it while being white…because then Hip Hop slowly starts to look more….Minstrel….to the level that Young Thug is at…and that says a lot…

Speaking of which…we all know what kind of shit Young Thug gets….that alone is a great example….

          • OK. i TOTALLY agree with you. so all im saying is they cant be upset with her. i would rather it be a message to the industry heads CEO’s, Presidents, and program directors at radio. somehow the bottom line ($$$) needs to be affected for there to be change. until then, the discussion will continue.

          • Well they could be upset with her…because she is going along with it….she’s not ignorant….so she gets some of the blame as well….but she is just a piece in the overall scheme of things….there is a lot to blame all around…But odds are…people wouldn’t be here posting if this message was towards someone like Jimmy Iovine….so i’m not mad at the direction made….

          • That’s not going to happen. The black men with their ear to the street no longer are involved in decision-making roles with hip hop. It’s the black pop division of the 3 major record labels, much like BET is now black MTV for all intents and purposes. It’s like the goose who laid the golden egg…the pencil pushing geek at the label decided the distribution model of the 90’s where they promoted the indy labels on a 50/50 split but essentially stayed out of anything to do with how they ran their labels, picked talent, songs, etc. wasn’t good enough for them. So instead, now we have those people instead of a person who’s in those neighborhoods, in the clubs, peers of, etc. the artists somewhere in an office saying, “I think this guy has the look, let’s make him hot,” incharge of what you hear. It’s not coming back….it’s like when a large company buys a Mom and Pop spot and ruins what they do because they tried to fix what wasn’t broken and can’t admit they don’t know wtf they are doing.

When I hear how in denial they are, I get a chuckle. Yea, we can’t sell albums because of piracy…no, you can’t sell shit because people got tired of buying disappointing garbage, so they got used to downloading a few songs off of every album, seeing that the entire purchase wasn’t worth their time. Sometimes I wonder do these people actually believe that people wouldn’t have bought some of the great music that came out back in the 90’s and that lived up or even surpassed every expectation. People copied tapes and shit back then too….it was pretty fucking easy to do….but the music was good, so you wouldn’t mind spending $10 on your favorite artist. These days, even when a “good” album is made, half the songs can be skipped, and that’s just being honest about it.

          • Because rappers call other rappers out as wack, inauthentic, etc. all the time; however, the difference with this one is that the machine and the media have gone out of their way to portray Azalea like she’s being singled out, which of course makes white hip hop fans angry and they back her. How many other rappers have called, Lil Wayne, Drake, this one, that one as bad as this or worse? I know I can say I’ve heard as bad or worse about them, but it’s not on every mainstream site that rapper x took a dig at Drake or Wayne or name your favorite pop rapper. However, Azalea responds to every person who doesn’t like her music. Couple it with that odd thing she does with her voice, and you have more piling on because people simply don’t like that shit. But don’t be fooled, the label is loving this shit….it’s the angle they used to make her the moderate star she is instead of the joke I thought this had to be when I’d see a woman who’s only been not only in the US less than 10 years, but the South less than 10 years speaking with that horrible parody of a blackcent.

I commented on this very site that the so called “shot” that Nicki Minaj allegedly took at her and was then spun into a “beef” by mainstream media without Azalea’s name being uttered as being what the label wanted and would run with to push her….about a year later, I think I was very right on the money, seeing how it played out. Problem is, what are they going to do for the encore when you have to sell her next time? I guess we’ll just blame it on the sophomore slump before she disappears in that case though, unless they can get a new angle. Sex tape leaking anybody? I’d expect it sometime next year to try to sustain her.

  6. Iggy is playing innocent and she’s really not she should just focus on music let Banks say what she wants but not say anything back. I think they are both kinda good, and I think everyone else should get the FUCK out of the argument this is between Iggy and Banks not bring in T.I and Q-Tip
