For Swizzy, he said it was difficult to take in such an unexpected compliment.

“I mean, he said it,” Swizz told DJ Envy with a smile when asked about his reaction to West’s statement. “He said it and I don’t know how to take compliments like that because I’m so used to playing the back and being humble and modest and that’s really who I am. But from a perspective of how he’s looking from, he’s probably really looking from the core and starting from 1998 to 2010, being consistent and having so many back-to-back-to-back-to-back success stories and y’all gotta ask him that. I can’t answer that. [laughs] More importantly, I’m in a good space in my life and when you bring that good energy to the studio, when you bring that energy into the music, it reflects better music.” (“Sucker Free”)

Around mid-August, Yeezy publicly made his proclamation.

“Listening to “Fancy” … This is a big statement but Swizz Beats may be the best rap producer of all time… f*ck that… he is,” hetweeted Friday (August 13) evening.

“He’s original… He’s modern… he lives this sh*t for real… he is rap… Yall gone see though… This Swizz year… Yall gone see.” (Kanye West’s Twitter)

Swizzy later responded to the statement and gracefully accepted Ye’s remarks.

“Much love to my brother @kanyewest for showing super love today I am humble by that statement 2010 =positive energy I told you!!!!!!,” he wrote Saturday morning. (Swizz Beatz’s Twitter)

Despite Ye’s statement, Beatz was not included in Billboard’s “Top Producers of the Decade” list last December.

Hot 100 Producers: 1. The Neptunes 2. Timbaland 3. Kanye West 4. Scott Storch 5. Will.i.am 6. Jonathan “Lil Jon” Smith 7. Stargate 8. Bryant-Michael Cox 9. Jermaine Dupri 10. Dr. Luke (Billboard Biz)
