Swizz Beatz Rebirths Eminem’s “Stan”

Swizz Beatz resurrects Eminem‘s popular “Stan” single from the rapper’s 2000 The Marshall Mathers LP, which details the demise of an obsessed fan.

According to Beatz, he tagged rapper Lil Wayne for a song called “Anne” which picks up where Em’s record left off.

“Off my album, there was a lot of controversy over this before. The Eminem album before [Recovery], Relapse, I submitted a beat to him called ‘Stan 2.’ When I was doing an interview and they said, ‘What you working on?’ [Em] was amongst the people in the lineup I submitted things for. I said, ‘I did a track for Eminem called “Stan 2.” ‘ So it got out of hand in the media. He didn’t want to do ‘Stan 2.’ But what I have on my album is a song called ‘Anne’ with Wayne, which is crazy. To connect the story of what we saying with Snoop, taking something that people remember and putting them in that time and taking it to the next level, the way that Wayne tells ‘Anne,’ he’s sorry what happened to Stan. The album is crazy.” (MTV)

Em performed “Stan” on-stage at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2001 with Elton John.

During this furor, he had his biggest hit in the form of the moody ballad “Stan.” Performed at the Grammys as a duet with Elton John, thereby undercutting some accusations of homophobia, the song helped Eminem to cross over to a middlebrow audience, setting the stage for the ultimate crossover of 2001’s 8 Mile. While Beatz has resisted offering further details, the producer/rapper recently revealed the name of his upcoming new album.

“MY NEW ALBUM NAME IS (HAUTE LIVING ) BECAUSE THATS MY ART ,FASHION, MUSIC, LIFE STYLE HAUTE MEANS THE HIGHEST LEVEL!,” he tweeted last month.

“SWIZZ BEATZ PRESENT @HAUTELIVING THE ALBUM FOR MUSIC ART FASHION FOR OUR PEOPLE……..GET WITH THE HAUTE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!” (Swizz Beatz’s Twitter)

The LP will feature Jay-Z, Drake and his new wife Alicia Keys.

“I’m working on my album which is super incredible,” he tells OK!. “Got everybody on there from Jay-Z to John Legend to Mary [J. Blige] to Drake. Super amazing album. I’m also working on Lenny Kravitz new album, working with Cold Play. When you’re in album mode and you’re in producing mode, working with any great artist you have fun and try to create the best music you can create. On one song [Alicia] just played keys on. I don’t know, cause I don’t know which one I’m going to use. I have a few songs. I’m probably going to drop my single with Mary before the summer is over. I’m shooting for that and I’m looking for fall to be Swizz Beatz mania.” (OK! Magazine)

A release date has not yet been announced.
