Music personality Sway Calloway has stepped forward to finally clear the air on what went down between himself and rap star Kanye West in their heated exchange last week on his radio show.
Rather than issue a statement, Sway dished out his feelings during a “RapFix Live” broadcast.
“It seemed to be public demand that I respond to an interview that I just did with Kanye West a week ago that blew up on the Internet, and I decided to respond here on ‘RapFix,’ ” Sway said to open Wednesday’s (December 4) episode. “I turned down a lot of other interviews, but today we’re going to set the record straight. For the record, I love Kanye West; that’s my little brother.” (MTV)
Sway also showed how much of a good sport he is by coming up with a clever marketing move based on the brief melee.
The one thing Sway didn’t co-sign was Kanye’s assertion that he didn’t have the answers. “See, that’s the part that I don’t necessarily agree with, that I don’t have the answers, man. And to prove it, there is something that I wanted to show you guys right here, that I actually got the answers now,” he said as he unzipped his jacket to reveal a black-and-white T-shirt that reads: “I Got the Answers.” (It’s on sale now at SwaysUniverse.com.) “I’m standing up and I’m telling you, I am Warhol,” said ‘Ye. “I am the number one most impactful artist of our generation. I am Shakespeare in the flesh. Walt Disney, Nike, Google–now who’s gon’ be the Medici family and stand up and let me create more? Or do you want to marginalize me till I’m out of my moment?” Sway responded, “Or why don’t you empower yourself and don’t need them and do it yourself?” But Kanye didn’t take too well to the question and barked back. “How Sway?! You ain’t got the answers, man. You ain’t got the answers. I’ve been doing this more than you.” (Rap-Up)
Despite the intensity, Sway managed to bring Ye back to his senses.
When Sway told him to “chill out,” he said, “You ain’t spend $13 million a year of your money trying to empower yourself.” Sway explained that he has spent hundreds of thousands on his clothing line, to which Kanye said, “And it ain’t no Ralph [Lauren] though. What’s the name of your clothing line? We don’t know.” After Sway calmed him down, ‘Ye apologized for his outburst. “I love you man. I’m sorry.” (Rap-Up)
