Dr. Jan Adams, the plastic surgeon responsible for operating on Kanye West‘s mother in November 2007 has been forced to hand over his medical license.
The action is a result of two DUI-related convictions since 2003.
Adams, 54, will no longer be able to practice medicine anywhere in the state, the Medical Board of California said Thursday but he may petition for reinstatement of his license in three years. “This mission of the medical board is public protection, and this action reflects the board’s ongoing commitment to that mission,” said executive director Barb Johnston. Adams was sentenced to a year behind bars earlier this year on a misdemeanor charge.
Solano County Superior Court Commissioner Ray Wieser handed down the sentence in Vallejo Monday morning after Adams’ defense counsel, Michael Cardoza, told the court that Adams did not want probation but was prepared to serve straight jail time for the offense. Wieser subsequently sentenced Adams to one year in Solano County Jail with credit for eight days previously served in custody. (Daily Democrat)
In June 2008, police were contacted and told of one incident where the doctor was arrested for reckless driving while going in the opposite direction of traffic.

Adams’ frequent records of DUI were allegedly considered in last February’s sentencing, including his most recent arrest in summer 2008.
Officers saw Adams’ 2004 gray Jag XJ8 driving the wrong way up an off ramp on the 680 freeway just outside Benicia, Calif., just about a half hour from Oakland. After failing a field sobriety test, he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, driving the wrong way and driving on a suspended license. (SOHH)
He is currently serving a year behind bars in a Northern California jail.
