The LOX's Styles P and singer Raheem DeVaughn have hooked up for a heart-warming tribute to slain teenager Trayvon Martin in light of shooter George Zimmerman being acquitted on murder charges over the weekend.
The emotional “Trigga Man” tribute anthem premiered online with Trayvon Martin-themed cover art on Monday (July 15).
Just two days after the verdict was announced in the landmark Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman case, D.C. crooner Raheem DeVaughn releases a tribute song to the 17-year-old Martin in “Trigga Man,” appropriately hashtagged #ATRAYVONMARTINSONG. While this isn’t the first song about Trayvon and the recent trial, it’s an extremely moving tale told from the perspective of Trayvon as he pleads with his murderer. As DeVaughn sings lines like “Did you ever stop to think? Or was hatred on your mind?” and “I was supposed to be in the yearbook, I was supposed to be King at the Prom,” you can’t help but wonder how Martin’s life would’ve turned out had the altercation with Zimmerman never occurred. Wyclef is up next to pay a respect to Trayvon Martin, following Young Jeezy last night. The Fugees rapper waited until the unfortunate not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial to release the visual treatment to his heartfelt Trayvon Martin tribute ‘Justice’. (HHNM)
Over the weekend, Atlanta’s Young Jeezy spoke out on the publicized case with the unveil of his “It’s A Cold World” tribute.
Young Jeezy reacts to George Zimmerman being found not guilty in the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by releasing the song “It’s a Cold World.” In the track Jeezy posted on his Twitter and Facebook pages Saturday, the Atlanta rapper discusses the untimely deaths of his friends over a somber, electronic hip-hop ballad. He raps, “I’m like losing homies everyday, I’m like kill somebody else. If nothing else, I’mma do it for Trayvon. That’s on a stack of bibles at least two or three Korans.” Jeezy said he is not trying to take advantage of Martin’s death. “I am in no way shape, form, or fashion am trying to capitalize off of the latest series of events,” he said in a statement. “These are my true feelings and my form of expression about it.” (Yahoo News)
A few days ago, Atlanta rapper Lil Scrappy dropped his “Trayvon Martin” tribute.
As closing arguments were underway in the George Zimmerman trial, Lil Scrappy released a song titled “Trayvon Martin.” Zimmerman is accused of second degree murder trial in the death of the Florida teenager. The case is expected to go to the jury on Friday. In the song, the Love & Hip Hop star sings about getting “legal justice” or “street justice” for the Black civil rights. In a statement to RumorFix, Scrappy explains, “I did this song because it doesn’t seem like anyone is stepping up to stand up against this racism. I have had a lot of time lately to read and think. If no one stands up we all are gonna fall.” Lil Scrappy recently completed a 30 day in-patient drug rehabilitation program and now visits with young people in schools to encourage them to say no to drugs.
