According to reports, the funeral took place early Friday (February 7).

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s funeral has just begun — and the church is jam-packed with the late actor’s famous friends … including Cate Blanchett, Spike Lee, Louis C.K., Ethan Hawke, and Ellen Burstyn. The private funeral service for family and friends is now underway at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in NYC — the same church where Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Aaliyah’s funerals were held. All told, roughly 400 people were expected to attend the ceremony. (TMZ)

Reports of the actor’s passing started to scatter across the Internet Sunday (February 2).

Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead Sunday afternoon in his New York City apartment, a law-enforcement official said. The New York Police Department is investigating, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine the exact cause of death. The official said Mr. Hoffman, 46 years old, was found dead at his apartment at 35 Bethune St. in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan. Mr. Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best Actor for the 2005 film, “Capote.” (Wall Street Journal)

Despite the growing speculation, there was initially no official word on what caused his passing.

A cause of death had not yet been determined, the official said, but it appeared to have been the result of an overdose. A woman answering the phone at Mr. Hoffman’s New York production company declined to comment. “I don’t have a comment at this time on that, thank you,” she said. (New York Times)

The late actor is most known for his award-winning big screen performances.

The acclaimed actor is best known for his outstanding performances in films like “The Master,” “Doubt,” “Charlie Wilson’s War” and “Capote” — for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2005. (Huffington Post)
