Having recently announced his aim to place artists like Jay and Kanye West on his forthcoming third solo project, Soulja Boy described his past issues with Jigga’s content.

“Jay-Z, I always respected him,” he revealed in an interview. “Always. But I didn’t always like his music. I guess because I was too young, and I couldn’t understand what he was saying…I got signed when I was 16 years-old. Before I got signed, I heard the song, and I was like, ‘That’s Jay-Z.’ My favorite song from him was ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder.’ I guess I liked the beat or the way he was flowing on there. Any other song I used to hear, I ain’t really vibe with it like that…Since I’m older now and I grew up, I like Jay-Z now. I’m a fan of his music. At first, I used to just respect him because he was Jay-Z, now I’m a fan of his music and I wanna work with him.” (MTV)

The rapper has been catching the attention of rap artists like Yeezy and Scarface as of lately.

“I think the Internet is what’s wrong with rap right now,” Scarface explained in an interview. “Because it’s no way to filter garbage. You say some dumb-a** sh*t, and you get a million hits on your Web site…And Soulja Boy is not included…He getting money and he’s my son’s age. I like the way he do it. I think he got the potential to be the next Russell [Simmons]. I’m giving him some big-a** shoes to stand beside but if that kid really focus on finding talent and marketing that sh*t like he is now at f*cking 18, 19-years-old, I ain’t mad at it…Dre [is the best producer] in the f*cking world. Like, I was listening to a track in this movie War and it was just an instrumental. The f*cking track was man who can f*ck with it? I mean the man releases a record every eight or nine years. This is how you rate the producers: staying power. Everything that he’s ever touched was some big sh*t.” (Vibe)

He was also requested by Grammy-winning rapper T.I. for a final concert farewell in Atlanta last month.

“Yeah man, you know, T.I. called me and told me he wanted me to come through before he went in [to prison],” Soulja Boy explained in an interview. “I said no problem, you feel me? I was in Atlanta, came through to the Philips Arena, you know there was like 19,000 to 20,000 people there.” (Radio Planet TV)

With The DeAndre Way in production, Soulja Boy previously spoke on the motivation behind his third album.

“The concept [is] my way of thinking, my logic, my theory on a lot of things,” he said in an interview. “It’s basically my interpretation on life. I’ma tell life stories. I done seen a lot of things in my life. Just to be how young I am, 18 years old, I made my first million at 16. I’m a natural-born hustler. That’s all I do is get money. No matter what situation I’m in, I’ma grind it out, I’ma get to the money, always think positive, always take care of my people, always take care of my family, and I’m gonna make good music. I can give a f*ck about haters. I ain’t going nowhere but to the top.” (Ace Showbiz)

A release date for The DeAndre Way has not yet been announced.
