[Starting 5: With the annual NCAA March Madness tournament in full swing, SOHH asks your favorite hip-hop artists to name their rap-based starting five team line-ups. Today, West Coast rapper Ras Kass lets loose his V for Vendetta squad.]
Point Guard: Jay-Z
I’ve got to give it to Jay-Z. It’s leadership by example. He’s on his way to a billi just because he told people “rich n*gga rhetoric.” He told n*ggas “I’m going to sell rich n*gga rhetoric.” He said that in his raps. If that’s not leadership to show how n*ggas how to get it, I don’t know what is. That’s crazy.
Shooting Guard: Mos Def
Mos Def. I’m giving it to Mos Def. In the long term, he’s really said and done some incredible things to me. When I think as a fan, I give it to him. We’ve had some real personal converasations and I just love that he’s been able to create an ability to really be himself. He wasn’t forced into any particular category. He scores his points.
Small Forward: Royce Da 5’9
I’m giving this to Royce. He just runs through n*ggas and he’s underrated. He’ll cross you over and leave n*ggas in the dust.
Power Forward: KRS-One
I’m giving this to KRS-One. He’s the teacher. Say no more.
Center: Kid Capri
I’m going with Kid Capri. Without the foundation of the deejay, what are you left with? He’s a fundamental part of the foundation. Without the deejay, there is no party. We’d only be hearing n*ggas rap a cappella. A rap battle only lasts so long until people don’t want to hear that sh*t anymore. So I’m giving it to Kid Capri.
