West Coast rap veteran Snoop Dogg has reportedly been banned from performing at the upcoming Parkpop Festival by the Mayor of The Hague J.J. van Aartsen.
According to reports, Snoop was planning to attend the annual festival at the end of June.
Having spent the better part of four years fighting for his right to travel to Britain, the hip-hop star Snoop Dogg, left, now finds himself a rapper non grata in The Hague, where the authorities had him scratched from the lineup of a free concert planned for later this month, BBC News reported. Snoop Dogg was scheduled to perform at the Parkpop festival in The Hague on June 27, but the mayor and law enforcement officials there asked its organizers to find another artist to replace him to ensure the “open and friendly character” of the festival. A representative for Snoop has since released a statement addressing the ban.
In a statement, the rapper’s management wrote: “There’s been much speculation that, given the enormous response by Snoop’s fans to the free festival, the local authorities would not be able to provide sufficient security.” “Snoop is a mainstay at music festivals all over the world and has performed at all of these without incident,” says Snoop’s publicist. The rapper has also received support from a renowned Holland concert promoter.
“Mojo, the largest concert promoter in Holland says, ‘We have never had any issues with Snoop, who has played magnificent shows at many of the festivals we promote such as Lowlands, North Sea Jazz and at several other promoted shows by Mojo.’ Snoop is a mainstay at music festivals all over the world and has performed at all of these without incident.” (Billboard)
Earlier this year, Snoop had a United Kingdom ban lifted.
This week Snoop Dogg was granted a UK Visa to perform at summer events around the country, after a long battle to overturn a visa ban. A 2006 scuffle at Heathrow between the rapper’s entourage and police and conviction in the US were behind the decision by UK immigration authorities to ban Snoop from the country. The decision was overturned on February 26, 2010 and Snoop successfully applied for a UK Visa for the summer concert circuit. (Visa Bureau)
