Along with his performance, Slim Shady managed to snag an “Artist of the Year” trophy.

Fresh off his “SNL” appearance, Eminem was back on stage at the inaugural YouTube Music Awards on Sunday. With some help from Mr. Porter, the Detroit rapper performed his MMLP2 cut “Rap God” against a stark black-and-white set. The Syndrome-directed performance was shot live at New York City’s Pier 36 and broadcast around the world. He was also named Artist of the Year, beating out fan favorites including Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and One Direction. (Rap-Up)

The ceremony also featured music videos being made throughout the night.

Unlike the Grammys or the MTV Video Music Awards, winners were voted on by fans, with One Direction, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj among the artists nominated across six categories. With director Spike Jonze at the creative helm of the ceremony, the YouTube Music Awards promised — and delivered — a volley of surprises, including the creation and broadcast of music videos with notable talents as the show unfolded. This wasn’t your typical red-carpet affair with a few songs and dances thrown in between acceptance speeches. The YouTube Music Awards sought to redefine expectations for a celebration of popular music, and in turn, revolutionized them. (USA Today)

Despite crowning himself “Rap God” last month, Em recently downplayed truly seeing himself as one.

“I think everything switches back and forth from hour to hour, day by day with me. That whole “Rap God” record pretty much from top to bottom is tongue in cheek. So I mean, do I want to feel like that? Maybe sometimes. Again, it goes back to everybody who competitive raps and does this for just purely the sport of it wants to be the best. Again, that’s why Kendrick’s verse worked so well because he only said what every rapper’s already thinking, If you don’t want to be the best, then why are you rapping?” (Rolling Stone)

Last night, the Detroit native performed on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” broadcast.

Eminem was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live to give us performances of his singles off of the upcoming album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which releases on Tuesday, November 5. Eminem was lazy with his performance and lip-synced the entire song, which left plenty of people on social media calling him out. To add to the social media intrigue, Eminem was joined on stage by hip hop legend Rick Rubin, who was sporting his iconic beard, along with sunglasses and a parka that made him look like a character on Duck Dynasty. The good news is that Eminem’s lackluster performance won’t keep anyone from buying his album, so he gets a free pass for going out and going through the motions. Still, you would like to see a little more effort on such a public platform. Regardless, it’s all over now and Eminem can now sit back and watch his record sales soar through the roof. (Fansided)
