A few weeks after publicly announcing their new deal with Eminem's Shady Records, rap group Slaughterhouse have disclosed details on their recent studio sessions for their sophomore LP.
Still in its early stages, the quartet’s first Shady project has already begun taking form.
The all-star Slaughterhouse, meanwhile, is “about six songs” into its first Shady album, the follow-up to 2009’s “Slaughterhouse” album and an EP released earlier this year, both for E1. “We were out in L.A. for the Grammys and did three or four sessions,” says the group’s Detroit-based MC Royce da 5’9″. Since then, he adds, the group — which also includes Crooked I, Joe Budden and Joell Ortiz — have been e-mailing ideas back and forth for additional tracks, which he says are “real personal, talking about something in particular, things we’ve been through — something a lot of critics can’t do, so we’re excited to show ’em we can.” (Billboard)
Group member Royce Da 5’9 also expressed the significance of their next album.
“We all can agree this is the most important thing in our careers,” he added. “[Eminem’s] very excited — and I’m always excited when I see his level of excitement, because he doesn’t get excited about a lot. I love seeing him happy, and this project definitely makes him happy…The first album we were kind of behind the eight ball…We had to complete the album in a matter of six days. With this album there’s no time constraints. We’ve got a good budget. I don’t think we’ve carved out a direction yet, but it’s coming along.” (Billboard)
The group’s Shady deal became publicized around mid-January.
Eminem is back in more ways than one. The Detroit lyricist is reviving his Shady Records company, and Wednesday (January 12) he announced the signing of two new acts: underground supergroup Slaughterhouse and upstart rapper Yelawolf. Cashis and D-12 remain on the roster, but Em made no secret of wanting to bring new life to his company. “Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse, it’s kinda phase two of Shady,” Eminem explained in a statement. “It’s the new generation of Shady Records, and as we’re trying to rebuild our label, it’s exciting for hip-hop, and with all of these forces coming together and with what everybody’s capable of on the mic, it’s gonna be fun.” (MTV)
Slaughterhouse’s self-titled debut landed on the sales chart in August 2009.
Slaughterhouse, which consists of Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5’9″ and Crooked I, made a soft landing on the charts this week debuting at No. 26. With seven days under their belts, the foursome’s E1 Music debut has pushed 18,200 records to date. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
