Former Bad Boy Records artist Shyne has revealed an interest to work with mainstream former Roc-A-Fella artist Kanye West and Roc Nation leader Jay-Z as he looks to re-spark a music career after nearly a decade behind bars.
According to Shyne, he is also interested in helping steer the careers of Israeli artists.
Reformed rapper and ex-convict Shyne said Tuesday he is eager to collaborate with artists ranging from young Israeli musicians to hip hop moguls Kanye West and Jay-Z as he revives his career. After serving eight years in prison for a nightclub shooting, the former protege of Sean “Diddy” Combs is now living in Jerusalem as an ultra-Orthodox Jew. Born Jamaal Michael Barrow, Shyne also goes now by the Hebrew name Moshe Levi Ben-David. (Associated Press)
Last fall, Shyne sat down with SOHH and discussed which artists he would like to rap alongside.
“I definitely want to collaborate with Baby, Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane,” Shyne revealed to SOHH. “I’d also want to record with Usher, Rihanna, there’s a few people that I’m jacking their style, definitely. Obviously Jay-Z is always somebody you’d like to do a record with.” (SOHH)
He also said his relationship with Cash Money Records’ Baby spans over a decade.
“Me and Baby have had a longstanding relationship for over 10 years, since I’ve been out in the streets,” Shyne added. “I’ve known him from way back then. We just kept that relationship. When I was in the pen, he got at me. When I got out the pen, he got at me. He’s always been one of those O.G.’s that always stood tall and do what people from the block do. That’s just what he does, he’s just a good dude. So it’s inevitable that we keep that connection.” (SOHH)
Outside of music, Shyne recently discussed his decision to change his image and devote himself to Judaism.
“There’s a girl by the name of Lady Gaga and she’s the #1 pop artist in the world and she wears outfits that are stitched together with meat… So if millions of people don’t have a problem with someone wearing meat as an outfit, how could you imagine they would have a problem with a guy like me who stands for everything that any true man stands for, who has walked through a fire, who is honorable and whose life is based on integrity?” (Blogs Forward)
