Shyne claims Ross’ past employment as a corrections officer rubs him the wrong way.

“Why wouldn’t I?,” Shyne asked in an interview about dissing Ross on his “Belize” record. “I mean, you know, I don’t get that. I don’t get an ex-prison guard being the #1 gangsta rapper. I don’t get that at all my man. I’m not saying you gotta feel the way I feel, but please, please have some compassion [for someone like me who is back home] from just doing ten years and going to war with the cops…you bangin’ on police because they trying to talk to your girl, or they trying to touch ya mama in the wrong place. So I deal with crooked cops my whole life. Ain’t nothing worse to me than a crooked cop. That’s the worst thing you can do is use your badge to get ahead. I’d rather a cop just be a cop. And I respect where you stand, and you respect where I stand. But how a cop gonna profit from the life that I live? Uh-uh, I ain’t jackin’ that. So yeah, I just want people to be clear, “No, not the C.O.” Nah, that ain’t me.” (Hip Hop DX)

Shyne’s “Belize” track hit the Internet around late July.

“I be smoking trees in Belize when they find me,” Shyne raps, “Dude, dude, did everything he said, I’m about a dollar what the f*ck is 50 Cent…They want to know what I’m up to, sh*t, I’m living like I’m accustomed — in and out of customs, what the f*ck you thought fool, I’m a hustler, no, no, no, not the CO, bro, bro, it’s the C-E-O…” (“Belize”)

Last year, Ross spoke with SOHH about wanting to collaborate with Shyne upon his release from jail in October 2009.

“I can’t wait,” Ross said about Shyne’s release. “You know that last album, Godfather Buried Alive, sh*t was hard. Sh*t was hard and not to mention his first album, when he first came out. The Barrington Levy sh*ts, some of my favorite records right there and just everything he represents, his love for it. He handled his business like a ‘G.’ He went and handled his business so it is what it is. He’s got a lot to come home to, he most definitely has the streets waiting for him and he most definitely get anything he needs on this side from you know, n*ggas like us.” (SOHH)

In 2009, Ross confirmed reports about his previous employment as a Florida corrections officer.

“The Boss done did it all to get money,” Ross said. “And what you gotta understand is, if rumors surface it wasn’t because, people felt like I didn’t address it. It wasn’t because of my selfish reasons, but what you gotta understand is that when you answer certain things, you gotta go to what was going on and who was involved, what the situation really was. So what we did was we got with BET and we chronicle my life so people can understand that by the time I was 17 years-old, 18 years-old, I was in a nice home, I was in whips, I was doing a lot of different things and I made a few moves…If Rick Ross did work at one of these places, it wasn’t for the obvious reasons. There’s a lot of gold mines around people’s faces that they don’t really know how to take advantage of…Yeah that picture is Rick Ross.” (Big Boy’s Neighborhood)
