New York rapper Shyne is reportedly considering releasing a new album later this year through Baby and Lil Wayne‘s Cash Money Records label.
The project would be called Messiah and come out on the same day as his Def Jam debut, Gangland in December.
“I might do that. I’m not sure,” Shyne said about possibly releasing an album on Cash Money. “We’re still finishing the fine points and negotiating that. Maybe I’ll come with something six months later, [maybe] every six months. I’ve got so much to say, you dig? I don’t think I can answer all the questions on one album. So I definitely think we can put out two different albums on the same day at the end of the year, then come back with a third one or another double set six months later. Get all this sh*it off my chest.” (MTV)
Island Def Jam CEO LA Reid announced Shyne’s signing to his label last February.
“I have come here to stand by Shyne and to officially kick off our partnership with Island Def Jam Music Group and Gangland Records and so it is really an honour to be here, really very special place. I am here because great people are worthy of travelling many many miles for it and I come here to say that your country is great and I hope you guys know that this is a great man from your country who deserves this kind of respect and who deserves this kind of support. So that is why we are here.” (7 News Belize)
Shyne also confirmed his new partnership and revealed his respect toward Reid.
“It is an honour and a pleasure, not just for me but for Belize. Chairman Reid is on the level of Berry Gordy, Clive Davis, the biggest music men in the history of music, and so to have a partnership with Gangland Records and Island/Def Jam is incredible for me.” (7 News Belize)
In a recent interview, Shyne opened up about slowing down his new rap flow.
“[People] should be happy that I changed…I was monotonous and angry,” he explained in an interview. “I can’t give them that old sh*t. That anger you heard in the booth was really me. It was like listening to someone with Post Traumatic Stress [Disorder]…I’m comfortable with mine. I figured it out, but I’m not a communist. People want that sh*t, but I can’t give it to them in the old way…I’m not no f*cking magician. You gotta make that sh*t…It’s about having character and integrity. I don’t care if I only sell one album.” (Hip Hop DX)
