Sears Rep Denies LL Cool J Clothing Rumors, “We Value Our Partnership W/ LL”

After reports of LL Cool J‘s clothing line being discontinued, a Sears representative has denied all claims and updated consumers on the company’s current stance with the rap star.

Sears rep Tom Aiello said LL’s clothing is in no danger of being shut down.

“Sears values its partnership with LL Cool J and will continue its commitment to providing the LL Cool J collection to its customers, both in-store and online,” he said. “The collection is characterized as affordable, iconic apparel for the family and represents an important breakout brand in Sears’ wide assortment of tees, denim and hoodies.” (WENN News)

LL also said his partnership with the major retailer is in good standing.

“My partnership with Sears has been a great success,” he wrote in a statement, “and I look forward to our continued working relationship providing affordable clothing for American families.” (All Hip Hop)

Reports from earlier this week said the company’s decision was based on the current economy.

Sears has opted to cease production of the Queens icon’s signature line, which was announced in July of 2008. Sears purchasing sources told the industry insider publication that the cuts were a reaction to the recession, but also lack of interest in the marketplace. Cool J has spoken little of the line since his Exit 13 campaign. Consumers will be able to purchase LL’s apparel at 50-75% discount at retailers and through Sears online. (Hip Hop DX)

LL launched his clothing line last fall.

Sears Holdings is partnering with hip-hop star LL Cool J to launch a line of clothing and accessories in the company’s stores this fall. The apparel for children, teen girls and young men will initially be stocked in 450 Sears stores in mid-September. The retailer says it hopes to expand the collection to more of Sears’ 2,400 stores by the end of the year. (USA Today)
