New York rap veteran Sauce Money has come forward to speak out on the controversy surrounding rapper Meek Mill ripping ex-affiliate Drake for allegedly using a ghostwriter.

In Sauce’s opinion, Drizzy most likely did not have other artists penning his music but may have been inspired with them around him.

“I think back in the days it would have been [a knock to have a ghostwriter.] I think back in the days emcees had more responsibilities to write they own sh*t – it’s not important right now. … Me, personally, you couldn’t really call yourself an emcee. Take for example with [music mogul Diddy]. Puff doesn’t call himself an emcee…I don’t think n*ggas was penning [Drake’s] bars like that. I think where we get it confused is we got people in the studio around that’s talented just like we are. So, we feed off of each other. So, a nigga might come up with a hook. A n*gga might finish a line for you. We’ve all done it. So, I think Drake is one of the best emcees in the game. … At the end of the day, you can’t discredit good music. Whether they write they sh*t or not, it’s good music. Me personally, I don’t have a problem.” (Doggie Diamonds)

Former Diddy protégé Shyne promoted Drizzy’s new Meek Mill diss track “Charged Up” and defended the Canadian hip-hop star a couple nights ago.

Drake treated fans to an unexpected new Meek diss with his “Back to Back” freestyle Wednesday (July 29).

“You gon’ make me step out of my f*ckin’ frame/You gon’ make me buy bottles for Charlamagne/You gon’ make me go out of my f*ckin’ way/I waited four days n*gga, where y’all at? … Yeah, trigger fingers turn to Twitter fingers/You getting bodied by a singing n*gga/I’m not the type of n*gga that’ll type to n*ggas/Shout out to all my boss b*tches wife-in n*ggas/Make sure you hit him with the prenup/Then tell that man to ease up” (“Back to Back” Freestyle)

  1. i disagree i dont see it that way ….if you wrote my hook and the hook is the catchy part who are the people listening to you or his pen….i get it how it happens not mad at that but if you didnt write the whole song then what is that its something maybe not ghost writing but its something not a huge deal but it is something….Plus not for nothing i remember when the crews around rappers were wack and the emcee pinned bars so his man can share and get on…..

    • It happens more than you think. I’m sure camps like Ruff Ryders, Death Row, Rocafella etc have done such. I remember Cassidy saying when he was signed to Ruff Ryder with Larsiny he came up with lines or hooks for other dudes.

      • More than just hooks. The same shit Drake is doing, 99% of them have done. This is business, and bitch better have that money as far as the record label goes. That’s the bottom ine with them, so somebody better come up with something that gets some ITune sales. Dudes want to eat, and some times it’s not even their idea. Like listen to how 50 Cent and The Game first got hooked up. Jimmy sent him in to help him because his ass wasn’t writing any hits they could push.

        • Don’t get it twisted. I don’t think cats like Nas, Kiss, Em or Jay is getting whole albums written by cats but do they get hit with an occasional line? Hook??? Sure they do. They all get writers block. Gza was another one I remember saying that Wu do it all the time. Gza said he had given lines to ppl but he has also gotten lines from people. It is what it is. It’s not like they NOT capable of writing they own s**t. They not Dre, Puffy or Trina. lol. They want to create the best product possible tho.

          • We’re in total agreement on this. It’s not just common sense, but it’s there for anyone to find out if they really want to know as long as the artist is being official with the people around them so they can get paid for what they do.

    • That’s the music business, and people need to understand this is what it is. It’s why dudes’ conversations change, according to the people who are in the studio with them. It also always has amused me that hip hop fans believe that most of these dudes who are mostly barely literate come up with these endless stream of ideas for hits and hits, but you have people like Prince who is a musical genius by any estimation of anybody from any era who has been in a studio with him and likes to control everything about the process; however, he has admitted to getting material that he molds into songs that come out from whoever is in his band. Now, look at how absurd that is when you think of it in that context. It’s why the Jay-Z sound changed from Reasonable Doubt to the Dynasty to the Black Album to this shit he’s doing now. But yeah, he’s coming up wirh all this stuff right off the top of his dome…because you know he doesn’t write his rhymes down and spits them in 1 take, lol. Silly ass hip hop fans though. You gotta love them. Shit is like believing in the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus.

      • Shit is like believing in the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus or some shit. LOL i understand that money time restraint and the thought of keeping a brand consistent requires a round table….like you said that the industry …at the end of the day there is a difference between a band member of prince whistling a note or painting a picture that leads to a song and someone siting down writing your hooks and coming up with the concept ….maybe the whole industry does do it…just means the whole industry is scared….every bar dont got be the best….every rap dont gotta have 16 bars…again not hatting or feeling no way either way but i stand by the thought …if a person wrote your hook or lines you cant say its all your song….maybe the public will accept it but truth is truth….last thought i challenge the thought of a simple mind being able to form a universe on thought alone….when there a lack of cohesive understand it gives birth to question thus making bars for even the simplest of minds possible at a very rapid rate….rough example jadakiss why…look how much we just wrote…the problem is that while people have it in them they are scared that it will not be accepted…and that thought comes from the business thought of give them what they want based off of what they have brought…at the end thank you for even reading my thought bless

  2. Coming up wit a hook, or bouncing ideas in a studio wit the homies, is one thing…but getting ur verses from somebody is somethin else…that takes a little away from u, if u claim to be da man..imo

  3. Sauce contradicting himself and ignoring the fact that dude was writing verses, so how sauce just imagine it was hooks

  4. lol sauce money ain’t really fckn wit that u can see he just said itto keep his name relevant to the new age guys

  5. The thing that gets me … is 1… Why hadn’t anybody really sit and think about that part of it .. It took Sauce Money to come out and give people a clear picture of a studio session with your peoples ? 2.. These are not verses taken from no where … It’s a few words .. few lines … Drake put credit on the song so mans can eat … You see that thing Sauce Money is talking about … most them dudes don’t get credit … Like how Jim Jones did to Max B . Not saying its the same thing but its common .. and most people try to keep it closed on the subject but this is a fail to me … Drake writes his own shit … DO U THINK JAY-Z DOES A SONG WITH YOU IF U AINT WRITING YOUR OWN SHIT … DIDDY ? WHAT SONG EXCEPT 50 CENT REMIX DO YOU EVER HEAR JAYZ AND DIDDY ?
