New York rapper Saigon has analyzed former Roc-A-Fella producers Just Blaze and Kanye West and named his favorite out of the two.
Although he expressed enthusiasm for Yeezy’s work, Sai said Just was the better beatmaker.
“I’m not even being biased–100 percent honest–I would have to say Just Blaze is a better producer than Kanye West. Just is more versatile. Kanye West shines when he does those soulful-type music–“You Don’t Know My Name,” “All Falls Down.” But I think Just Blaze masters that. He can do that, then he can do a song like “PSA,” “Can’t Let You Go” by Fabolous, and it sounds totally different. He’s doing real pop-eclectic stuff [now] and it sounds incredible. They’re both super-great, but the only producer I’d compare to Just is Timbaland. That’s the only producer with that versatility.” (VIBE)
Despite Sai’s proclamation, Blaze was not included in Billboard’s “Top Producers of the Decade” list last December.
Hot 100 Producers: 1. The Neptunes 2. Timbaland 3. Kanye West 4. Scott Storch 5. Will.i.am 6. Jonathan “Lil Jon” Smith 7.Stargate 8. Bryant-Michael Cox 9. Jermaine Dupri 10. Dr. Luke (Billboard Biz)
Over the summer, West said he believed Swizz Beatz was the best hip-hop producer.
“Listening to “Fancy” … This is a big statement but Swizz Beats may be the best rap producer of all time… f*ck that… he is,” he tweeted Friday (August 13) evening.
“He’s original… He’s modern… he lives this sh*t for real… he is rap… Yall gone see though… This Swizz year… Yall gone see.” (Kanye West’s Twitter)
Despite his preference, Sai will have West and Blaze featured on his upcoming Greatest Story Never Told album set to drop February 15th, 2011.
His album features guest appearances by hip hop legend, Bun B, Q-Tip, Marsha Ambrosius and Faith Evans. Saigon wisely selected super producers Just Blaze, Kanye West, Buck Wild and Red Spyda to culminate his debut masterpiece. “I’m just finally happy that people are going to hear my music”, says Saigon. Just Blaze also serves as the project’s Executive Producer in addition to Rich Nice (Ludacris, Nas) and radio and television personality Sway Calloway (The Wake Up Show, MTV). “It’s time to get focused, this is a serious project put ya game face on” says Just Blaze.
