According to RZA, he went well over budget to make the fan-wishing project come together.

“Everything [is out of pocket]. And I won’t recoup. I’m already overbudget. Maybe I’ll net out a half-million-dollar loss,” RZA said in an interview. “I invested in the album. Look, if I never did anything again in music, it wouldn’t affect my life materially. I live a very satisfying life. Not because I’ve made a few dollars, but because I have a wife who loves me and children who wait for me to come home. And that is beautiful. I think that’s the American dream: to be at peace at home.” (New York Times)

Bobby Digital also updated fans on the status of the mystery Once Upon a Time in Shaolin LP.

“When we made the announcement, emails came in. People just started — “Yo, I want it.” My boy from London, 1.2. The biggest offer that came in was, “Yo, five million.” Whoever pays five million for this, I don’t know what they’re going to do with it. There’s potential to make much more, but I don’t think it’s a commercial thing.” (New York Times)

Earlier this year, Wu’s Raekwon said the group movement was back on track following a spat with RZA.

“We finally reached some kind of great agreement, me and RZA. And, yeah, everything is starting to happen… it’s starting to make sense. I can’t really give you too much ballistics on that, but as far as me being on board to do what I’m supposed to do, my team is telling me that it’s going to be a great situation. So I’m excited.” (Clash Music)

Wu member Ghostface Killah recently acknowledged how much effort and force was needed to keep a veteran hip-hop group together for decades.

“You can’t really get mad at it because look at all the groups you know that was from back then. They replace them with new members and some n*ggas die off. That’s what happens. So, to try to keep this family together, yo, it’s f*ckin” hard,” Ghost said in an interview. “We love each other, but love and business is two different things. You gotta understand. We’re men now. We ain’t coming in on some Fat Albert And The Gang sh*t like we did early on. We got heads on our shoulders now. We got babies. Some of us is grandparents. So, you gotta make sure your foundation is right. Wu-Tang is the foundation.” (Complex News)

  1. That’s why he’s the Rza. Rzarecting his musically dead Wu brethren who don’t bring anything to the table with regards to new and innovative routes to increase revenue streams for the Clan, Wu-tang was supposed to be/could have been a global corporation instead of just relying on the music aspect of things.

    • They all had successful solo careers method mad had like 3 albums and he was a actor ghostface put out like 7 albums raeqkon put out like 4 albums and he got his own label gza put out albums odb cappadonna put out albums they been touring they had the own clothing line rza got his on head phones and been in movies the wu as a whole been very successful bro

      • Yea but when meth or red had success in movies or tv it wasnt from wu-tang it was off them solo. it wasnt like building a brand as wu, it was just themselves. When rza scores movies, he isnt doing it under the wu-tang flag i dont believe

        • Not true.Who is Meth without first being in the Wu??????That makes no sense.Meth is my favorite but no RZA beats and production and no Wu whole formula.Where and when would we have seen Meth?????

          • What I mean is he was famous because of the WU but after the movie is when he really took it to the next level. And that movie wasnt WU affiliated. And I always teetered between Meth and Ghost. To this day I think ghost would be nice on a show like Black Dynamite. His imagination seems like it would fit in with that writing style and he could be a character. I dont know why I even had that thought but I think it would be dope.

        • negative on that….Wu is what made it all possible. It’s like saying Snoop Dogg could’ve achieved all his fame without Dre and The Chronic.

      • and thats all true, I agree with that. But Rza’s original vision was for the Wu to not just be a force musically but also to be a conglomerate of sorts with business interests outside of the music. These guys could have been owners of nightclubs, restaurants and a whole slew of other things with each general taking a share of the profits. In short the major business ideas were brought to the table by Rza himself and Oli “Power’ Grant, which is why they tended to executive produce all the Wu albums as well.

  2. I couldnt predict what the album would do. I think of people from basically 26-40 dont buy it then it will not sell. You would have had to been old enough to see the stuff come out new, in my opinion. I wonder why the other Wu-Tang members aint puttin their bread together to make this happen then, if thats what they want.

    • I wonder why the other Wu members don’t form a group within like Rae, Ghost and Meth did. Cap (tho not officially Wu), UGod, Masta Killa, maybe affiliate Killah Priest since HRSMN seems to be done.

    • Wu Tang was RZA’s baby that’s why. He put it together, it was his vision. RZA is a true fan and lover of this ish.
