Atlanta rapper Rocko has offered his take on seeing protégé Future upgrade his business relationship with Ciara to the next level by making her a romantic love interest.
While he would not dig too deep into Future’s personal life, Rocko did briefly discuss why his relationship with R&B singer Monica did not work out despite having two kids together.
“Hey man, you know, both of them are family. We’ve been family for a long time,” Rock said when asked about his thoughts on Future dating CiCi. “That’s all I can say about it, you know. [Future’s working on her upcoming album]. That’s correct. [laughs] … I’m not going steady, buddy. … [Me and Monica,] we had two little boys. Shout-out to Mo. She’s married. We tried it, you know, but it didn’t work out the way we wanted it to in the beginning. In the beginning, we were thinking it was meant to be forever, but in life, when people grow up and try to do different things, sometimes people grow apart and when I met her, I wasn’t doing music. I started doing music — it’s time-consuming. A lot of things you love, you have to sacrifice. It’s a grind. I think with her and I, we just kind of grew apart. She wanted to be married and — I was married to the grind, married to the hustle. I have nothing but the upmost respect for her. I have nothing but the upmost respect for her husband. He’s a cool cat.” (Hot 97)
The Atlanta hip-hop artist also denied taking a break from the music industry and said he prefers to work behind the scenes as an executive.
“I got a record company,” Rocko said. “My first artist is Future. I rap for the sport when I feel like it. That’s why it seems like forever to come out, ‘He doesn’t do videos, he doesn’t do interviews, whatever, whatever.’ I just do it for the sport, when I feel like doing it. I just want to be heard when I want to be heard.” (Hot 97)
This week, CiCi gushed over the happiness she has experienced with Future now in her life.
“I’m happy. I’m with somebody that makes me feel very comfortable in this setting,” she gushed. The decision to reveal more about her personal life was one that took time. “It’s just a whole new thing that’s happened within myself internally that’s kinda inspired me to do things differently,” she said. “I’ve been able to learn a lot over the past years of my life. I’ve tried things many different ways. I’m now in a place in my life where I’m so much more comfortable than I’ve ever been in my skin. I’ve learned that you gotta live your life for you. People are gonna have something to say no matter which way you do it.” (Rap-Up)
Back in January, Future came clean on the speculated dating rumors.
“She’s amazing, incredible, everything that comes along with those words. I could tell you all the negativity that comes along with me and her is not true because our personal life is our personal life. Sometimes present and think it’s true like they have facts but at the end of the day we know what’s true and we know what’s not true and anything negative from that situation, eh man, we’re not even representing that.
