Roc Nation’s Willow Smith has opened up about her determination to become a leading female artist at the age of 10.
According to Willow, she envisions herself being as big, if not bigger, than Grammy-winning superstar Lady Gaga.
“I would like to be a very well known artist,” Willow said in an interview. “I would like to be as big as Lady Gaga. I would like to be bigger. I’d like to be a big rock star…The hardest part is wanting to hang out with your friends when you have to work. My friends will come over and you’re recording and you’re like, ‘Pleeease let me go with my friends. I don’t wanna stay here!’ but people are relying on you.” (NME)
While Gaga may be her favorite pop superstar, Willow recently named some of her preferred emcees.
Willow Smith became a fan of Tupac through her mother, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who was best friends with the rapper since they met in Baltimore, where Tupac attended theater classes early in his career. During an interview with Nnette on Madd Hatta‘s morning show, on 97.9 The Box in Houston, Willow Smith detailed her love for Tupac, as well as other musicians. “He was my mom’s his best friend,” said Willow, who added that she was fan of Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Billy Idol, B.O.B. and Eminem, although she labeled Tupac as her favorite. In October, Willow reflected on inking a deal with Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation record company.
“It felt like all the hard work paid off, mostly that,” Willow told us. “Like all the hard work that I’ve done, like recording ‘Whip My Hair’ — it’s paid off.” She recalled making introductions: “We went to this building, I don’t remember what it was, but we had a meeting and I got to hang out with him and meet him, and it was fun.” (MTV)
Southern rapper Rick Ross recently shared his admiration toward Willow.
“It’s incredible, I was like wow, she’s can’t be nine,” Ross said with a smile. “It can’t be true. But you know, every so often, you find a true ball of talent and that’s what that is. She’s a young beautiful superstar, it’s just written all over her face and just to hear the record, it’s crazy.” (Rap-Up TV)
