Roc Nation VP of product marketing Liz Hausle has admitted an unexpected announcement by label star J. Cole to move his long-awaited Born Sinner release date up a week to face-off against Kanye West's Yeezus even threw them off.
Rather than beg Cole to reconsider his decision, Hausle said Roc Nation has fully stood behind the marketing strategy.

Cole announced his album release date change a few weeks ago.
“Kanye West is one of the greatest artists of our generation.,” Cole tweeted May 20th.
“Which is exactly why I’m moving my release date up.”

He initially revealed the project’s title and late January original release date last fall.
Aside from a few free tracks (“I’m a Fool ,” “Get Free ColeWorld “) and live previews of new verses , J. Cole has remained largely quiet about his sophomore album–that is until last night when, during a UStream, the Roc Nation rapper finally announced the title and release date of the new LP: Born Sinner, due out Jan. 28. The news also comes with a pretty dramatic trailer. Let’s hope this means we’ll be hearing some new Cole in the coming weeks. (Prefix Mag)
Despite his aim to face-off with Kanye West, Yeezus could face a possible delay due to last-minute changes.
Kanye West’s new album “Yeezus” is due out June 18, but he’s still in the studio putting the final touches on the track list. Chatter among music insiders is the rapper’s scrambling to add some consumer-friendly singles to the album. The aggressive tracks he performed on “SNL,” including “New Slaves” and “Black Skinhead” received mixed reviews. But an insider tells us that West’s reworking so close to the release date is “not in any response to any negative reaction.” He’s also bringing in extra marketing muscle to push “Yeezus” including Amy Thomson, who managed Swedish House Mafia and is working with West as a consultant.
