Grammy-winning singer Rihanna has broken silence on her father, Ronald Fenty, and why their relationship has taken an unexpected turn for the worst.
Labeling her dad as a backstabber, RiRi said she no longer trusts his motives.
“It really makes me question what I have become to my father. Like, what do I even mean to him?,” Rihanna said in an interview. “It’s really strange. That’s the only word I can think of to describe it, because you grow up with your father, you know him, you are a part of him, for goodness’ sakes! And then he does something so bizarre that I can’t begin to wrap my mind around it. You hear the horror stories about people going behind people’s backs and doing strange things, but you always think, Not my family. My father would never do that to me.” (Vogue)
She also said tensions between the two developed after her 2009 domestic violence dispute with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
“That was the first time,” she added referencing the dispute. “My dad went to the press and just told them a bunch of lies. Because he hadn’t talked to me after…that whole thing…. He never called to find out how I was doing, if I was alive, nothing. He just never called. He went straight to the press and got a check. And now he does it again.” (Vogue)
Following the February ’09 attack, Fenty spoke with media outlet PEOPLE about his daughter’s condition.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Rihanna’s father, Ronald Fenty, said that when he first heard that his daughter had been attacked by Chris Brown, “I didn’t believe it. “I know my daughter,” said Fenty, 55. As for Brown, he said, “You think you know somebody, but you really don’t.” Describing Rihanna’s current condition after seeing her on Thursday, Fenty said, “There is some bruising. She will be all right. I think so.” He adds, “At some point, she will speak out. I hope she will stand up for women all over the world.” (PEOPLE)
In lighter news, RiRi’s new album Loud has currently sold over a million copies since its release last year.
R&B singer Rihanna’s Loud took a three step drop out of Top 10, moving down to No. 11 with 29,900. With four months in the books, RiRi’s latest offering has sold 1,039,400 records. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
