Although former acclaimed music couple Rihanna and Chris Brown have parted ways since a publicized 2009 domestic violence case, the R&B diva now expresses how much support she still has for him.
Based on an excerpt from her new Esquire cover feature, RiRi admits she used to resent her ex-boyfriend.
“It’s incredible to see how he pulled out of it the way he did. Even when the world seemed like it was against him, you know? I really like the music he’s putting out. I’m a fan of his stuff. I’ve always been a fan. Obviously, I had some resentment toward him for a while, for obvious reasons. But I’ve put that behind me. It was taking up too much of my time. It was too much anger. I’m really excited to see the breakthrough he’s had in his career. I would never wish anything horrible for him. Never. I never have.” (Esquire)
Last spring, RiRi caught backlash for following Brown on Twitter.
“@iStan4Rihanna_ its f*ckin twitter, not the alter! calm down,” she tweeted May 14th.

Rihanna and Brown began following one another around mid-May.
Exes Chris Brown and Rihanna are following each other on Twitter– and the fans aren’t very happy about it. On Saturday, people began to notice that Brown — who beat his then-girlfriend Rihanna on the night of the Grammy Awards in 2009 — started following Rihanna on the social media website. In turn, she followed him as well. (Billboard)
Earlier this year, RiRi talked about her lack of motivation to hook back up with Chris Breezy.
“We don’t have to talk ever again in my life,” Rihanna explains. “I just didn’t want to make it more difficult for him professionally. What he did was a personal thing — it had nothing to do with his career. Saying he has to be 100 feet away from me, he can’t perform at awards shows — that definitely made it difficult for him … But you can never please people. One minute, I’m being too hard, and the next minute, I’m a fool because I’m not being hard enough.” (Rolling Stone)
Last February, Chris Brown had his restraining order downgraded but is forbidden from annoying, harassing and stalking ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
