Rapper Riff Raff recently discussed the buzz surrounding hip-hop newcomers like Action Bronson and A$AP Rocky and said Kreayshawn’s upcoming debut album is platinum-bound.
Focusing first on Bronson and Kreay, Riff said both are talented in their own ways.
“Action Bronson is a very talented indivisual. Not only can he rap, he has very good lyrical vocabulary and mindset and he’s a good person, too, we’re good friends, and he can also cook. … Kreayshawn? A lot of people, I think, ’cause she did that one song all the way last year, so I think a lot of people are thinking she’s a one-hit wonder or something like that. That’s not the case. I’ve heard a lot of new sh*t, her new music, and it’s excellent. I think when it drops, it’s going to sell more than anticipated. I think she’ll go platinum. … People are anticipating her album. When it comes out, I’m going to go buy it.” (FUSE TV)
He also gave props to Harlem, New York’s A$AP Rocky for introducing a unique sound.
“A$AP Rocky, he’s got his own swag, I think,” Riff added. “His own style. That’s the first time I ever used ‘swag’ too. So I think he’s got his own style. The thing about A$AP Rocky, he’s on a different level. He’s definitely going in his own lane. It’s rap, it’s rap, it’s definitely rap, but he’s definitely trying to hone down his own style so I can never fault something like that. He’s got some good music. … He has a smooth flow like a Wiz [Khalifa], where it’s real easy to listen to the songs. I can hear myself listening to a whole A$AP Rocky album from start to finish. His songs all flow well.” (FUSE TV)
New York veteran producer Dame Grease recently gave SOHH his thoughts on Kreay.
“I’m working with Kreayshawn,” Dame told SOHH. “Whatever’s got that wave to it, I’m working on it. She’s dope. You’ve got to understand, for me, I look at every artist for who they are. I don’t look at an artist and say, ‘I like him.’ Nah, I look at every artist for exactly who they are. Any artist I’ve named with you, they’re originally themselves. That’s who I like working with, I like working with people who are themselves. If you’re a dude who wears a big yellow hat all the time, like that’s your sh*t, we gonna find a way to make that work. But it’s got to be your sh*t. I like artists that’s original, that’s got their own swag, got their own brand, their own sh*t with them. I can’t work with someone who sounds like somebody else.” (SOHH)
Her long-awaited debut album is slated to hit store shelves next month.
Last week marked the one-year anniversary of Kreayshawn’s “Gucci Gucci” video hitting YouTube, and now, 34 million clicks later, the Oakland rapper’s debut album has received a title and release date. “Somethin’ ‘Bout Kreay” hits stores on Aug. 14 through Columbia Records. On Monday (May 21), Kreayshawn also issued the video for “Breakfast,” a new single featuring 2 Chainz. In the video, which Kreay directed herself, a wild breakfast party gets a little bit wilder when The Artist Formerly Known as Tity Boi shows up swinging two bottles of maple syrup in his hands. Pancakes for all! (Billboard)
