Reports of the cancellation started to bubble online Thursday (December 6) night.

A Maybach Music Group concert tour headlining Rick Ross was scheduled to appear Friday in Greensboro and Saturday at the Bojangles Coliseum. Rappers Wale and Meek Mill were scheduled to appear as well. The theats stem from the Gangster Disciples, who have a beef with Ross. The North Carolina Chapter recently put out a YouTube video warning him to stay out of Charlotte. (Charlotte Observer)

The death threats allegedly stem from a local group called the Disciples who have a gripe with Ricky Rozay over a rap lyric.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police released a statement Wednesday before the cancellation, saying officers would remain vigilant to ensure safety. Deon Cole is a friend of Ross and is the Assistant Programming Director for Power 98. He didn’t believe that fans have anything to worry about. In the rap video the Disciples are upset because Ross mentions the name of the founder of the street gang and uses the Star of David to promote himself. That symbol is used by the gang. Last month, Ross also had to pull out of a show in Tucson, Arizona.

The MMG Tour has cancelled its planned show at Tucson Arena Tuesday night. The tour’s promoters, Live Nation, cited a scheduling conflict as the reason to cancel the show, according to a news release sent out early Monday afternoon. The tour features Maybach Music Group chief Rick Ross and rappers Meek Mill, Wale and Machine Gun Kelly. The Tucson show was the tour’s only Arizona stop on a tour that includes shows in California this week and along the East Coast next week. Refunds will be given at the point of purchase. Coincidentally, the rap star’s right-hand man Gunplay is currently under house arrest.

“I’ve been on house arrest for about a month now, I just went to court today. They pushed the trial back to next year, the middle of next year, so I’m still gonna be on house arrest for the meantime, but I’ma try and see if I can get some travel permission by this week, so I should be trying to hit that turf by next week still. It’s like a 75 percent chance right now [I’ll go out and tour], this case really made me sit down and realize the blessings that have been bestowed upon me. I can’t take it for granted. I’m just locked down and focused on my album.” (Global Grind)
