In Ricky Rozay’s perspective, the star-studded event birthed new light and energy.

“I think it was a great day for hip-hop. It was a great energy for hip-hop,” Ross said of the MMG press conference. “When you reflect on hip-hop on a boss level, for the last 10 years, the business of hip-hop has been kinda shaky, it’s been in a decline. I was talking to Lyor [Cohen] this morning and we were talking about how it’s already bottomed out — there’s nowhere to go but up from here. I think this was a new energy that the hip-hop game needed, a momentum change.” (MTV)

Yesterday’s event featured powerful speeches courtesy of music executive Lyor Cohen and producer Swizz Beatz.

“He has the biggest office in the world; that’s called the streets,” Cohen said, along with revealing it has been nearly 20 years since publicly speaking at a press conference. Swizz Beatz later came out saying, “My conversation with him is like a conversation with Nas or a conversation with [Jay-Z]…Ross is humble. He’s trying to get to the next level. People forget that hip-hop started off as a rebelious movement. I just wanna commend a bawse for doing bawse things and keeping it real.” (SOHH)

Bad Boy Records CEO Diddy also used the opportunity to shower Rozay with props.

“Everytime you hear that Australian girl saying Maybach Music, your d*ck gets hard, or at least my d*ck gets hard,” Diddy said. “His actual records off his mixtapes are so hot that they get on the radio without any promotion. He is the hottest rapper of this generation — he’s like a jazz singer or a soul singer or a gospel singer. It just touches your heart in that way. He’s a genius to me, he’s my brother, I know he will go down in history as one of the greatest record men. I knew he was a great one and I didn’t give a f*ck what everyone else was saying. And now they all on ur d*ck! He’s an artist that’s gonna change the world.” (SOHH)

Outside of Ross-related announcements, the press conference also served as a platform to reveal upcoming Maybach Music Group releases.

First up will be MMG’s Self Made, Vol. 2, which is set to drop on June 26. Following will be Rozay’s highly-anticipated LP, God Forgives, I Don’t, which Ross announced will be coming out July 31. Finally, MMG announced Meek Mill‘s debut album, Dreams & Nightmares, for an August 28 release date. (XXL Mag)
